I do!! I love the train games, especially the British Rails version (which should be no surprise to those posting in ABC's of Places and Cities).
These are games I can even win!! They are put out by Mayfair games, who also puts out Settlers of Catan.

Speaking of Train games... has anyone played the Ticket to Ride series from Days of Wonder? There is three of them, America, Europe, and Germany. The original one of them (America) quickley became my family's favorite board game ever. We've played it a kajillion times.

How did I miss this topic before... anyway,
Chess all the way but what I would like to do is to play this variant I read in a book. It's called Jetan. It has a few more pieces and there's more than one way to win besides the standard Checkmate.
And as far as amusing stories go, I've always enjoyed chess. Learned it from my dad and practiced with my uncle, but it wasn't until my Junior year I think, in Chemistry class that I perfected my game. We had the worst teacher in the world and between me and my lab partner, we xerox'd her notes and played chess during her lectures. Which was often. It was pretty cool, I took apart one of the 20 games in one things and pasted the board in the back of my assaignment pad with little magnets for pieces. And yes I did ace the class so I wr hardly neglecting the class. Just a little annoyed I was teaching myself. But yea, thats my awesome chess story =P

I can't play chess. It's too complicated for my brain to handle. It's not a board game, but I like Uno. ^^ Ummm board game board game...hmmmmm. Scattergories? Scrabble. I haven't played half the one's you've been talking about like DnD (whatever that is). Trivial pursuit sounds like my kind of game, but I've never played it.

DnD stands for Dungeons and Drangons. It's really more of a system than a board game where you create characters with dice and play them through some world, much of the time they resemble stories like the Lord of the Rings.

One of the teachers had a 4-person chess set, with a board shaped like a cross (it had three extra rows added to each end of the traditionally square board), and we played for hours. If anyone knows where I could find a similar set, I'd appreciate it. Please, I'd love to know too! Here's one by John N. Hansen, available at > Amazon.com> AreYouGame.com> Toy & Game Warehouse

I've noticed that a lot of you have mentioned monopoly. Here are some strategies to help improve your chances of winning: 1. If possible, take the banker position. This way you can be on top of all the transactions made by all the players. 2. I usually buy pretty much every property I land on early in the game, until I start to run low on funds. 3. Everybody hides money, but why? a. Other players underestimate your total funds, and don't see you as the threat you are. b. You are less likely to spend this money, and that means you'll have it saved for emergencies. 4. Make deals that no one can refuse. Quirky and funny trades MAY keep an opponent interested. Never show a trading partner the full price tag. Does anyone else have personal favorite strategies? I know that the orange and red monopolies are the best, but for some weird reason I love to get what I call "The Ultimate Corner". Park Place and Boardwalk, Mediterranean ave. and Baltic ave. If I can get my hands on all those, I'm a happy man.

I LOVE Monopoly- I find that I usually win, I think because I can persuade people pretty well.
I find that the Orange property is the best on the board- the cost to buy houses is only 100 bucks and with a house you can make ALOT of money (can't remember the exact number)- and whoever is sent to jail has to come around your property right away, so I find it is the most landed on property out there.
I don't like boardwalk/parkplace because it costs the most, you only have 2 spaces to land on, and I think it's the least landed on property due to it being the last spaces on the board and being after the 'go to jail' space.
Wow I'm writing a novel here.-
And I didn't know that anyone else hid there money! My whole family does, and it's hilarious because when someone owes someone more money than they are showing, we say:
"Thank goodness for my. . ." and then we bust out the money "SECRET STASH!"
and it cracks us up everytime, well exept for the person who was hoping to make someone bankrupt.
So ya, as you can see I LOVE monopoly. . .

Well, really, Boardwalk and Park Place are complimented very well by the Purple monopoly. If I get my hands on all four of them, I'll build up the purples first and use the funds I get from them - very little, I know - to build up the Blues. Once you have built up the Blues and the Purples, it's quite a money-making corner, what with people passing go and collecting $200... but yeah, I probably make it sound better than it is. I like the combos...
The best deal I ever made was with a guy who had Boardwalk. If he gave me Boardwalk for $400 (completing the Blues, and I already had the Purples) I would give him 10% of all Blue sales. So he did. Once I had a hotel on Boardwalk I gave him $200 every time someone landed on it, even when I bankrupted them. It was pretty fun
