Not bad, but you do have to remember that everyone in Albion has to be absolutely perfect people. Here is a good list (IMHO): Llew - Jerry O' Connell - (We'll just have teach him how to act a little better.) Siawn Hy - Jude Law Ollathir - Sting Goewyn - Kate Beckinsale Meldron - Christian Bale ...just to name a few. My friend and I had a real hard time trying to cast these characters. Tegid was our hardest. I don't think we could settle on anyone. You know, I thought about Jude Law as Simon, but decided against it because he was way older than the other actors who should have been contemporaries. Also, the three ladies I picked for Scatha's daughters...well, imo, they are all just about perfect. Christian Bale as Meldron works well, much better than my choice. Tegid was the last one I settled on also--and I picked Alec Newman because (1) he has experience playing a blind prophet [i.e. his work in Children of Dune] and (2) I think he is an excellent actor who doesn't see as much play as he should. I must, however, protest at Sting as Ollathir; I imagined Ollathir projecting wisdom and power and just radiating magick--Ian McKellan is the only actor I know who can do it (aside from Christopher Lee--but in my mind he only plays villains).

You should read Sting's biography. (Sorry, this should be in book recommendations.) The man has been through a lot in his lifetime. He has a face that says a thousand words. I think that look would translate very well for Ollathir on the screen. It's presence. He's got it. I was at his concert a few months ago and you could see it. Sting would work. I also felt like to going with a whole new set of faces. Don't get me wrong, Lord of the Rings was great, and Sir Ian McKellan was fantastic, but we've seen him now, and I believe that his time of being an old wizard, or that type of character, is over. Alec Newman... good choice. Maybe we should collectively cast the film, and talk to SRL. Who knows...

Maybe it's just that when I think of Sting's acting, I always think of David Lynch's Dune movie, where he was Feyd. And, I'm not such a Dune fan that I can't admit that that was a horrible film. I know, it's probably narrow-minded to typecast someone, but that's how I see it.
And, yes, maybe if they ever make a movie they'll take this under consideration.

I've been thinking about this Albion movie deal...you know, if the Sci-fi channel can do Dune relatively well, why not Albion? I mean, they've branched into fantasy with Legend of Earthsea (not that I can pass judgement on it because I've never read the books or seen the mini), so it wouldn't be a real stretch for them. And, it's not like it would have to be a special effects-driven story. In fact, it would probably turn out better being low-budget, because then the screenwriters would be forced to explore the characters rather than rely on the crutch of BAM! type effects.
What do you all think?

Despite the fantasticness of LotR, I'm not sure I want to see Peter Jackson's Albion. There shouldn't be any "judicious rewrites" in it--and PJ has proven that he's not above messing around with the plot to make a splash (Elves at Helm's Deep!).

Agreed. LOTR: the movies are great, but virtually everything delicate or intricately-drawn about the books was smashed up. A mini would work better: the transition from the ride to Ynys Sci to the fight with Cynan is so abrupt that it seems made for an episode-break. Just so they don't get William Hurt for any regal role.

I would hope Peter Jackson would direct it. He has a lot of imagination and creativity. He did a phenomenal job with LOTR. I wouldn't want to assume that Peter Jackson would even want to direct it. He did Lord of the Rings. Final. Finished. Complete. Why would he want to direct another fantasy? Besides, he's busy with his own projects. It would just be a matter of finding the right guy, that's all. Peter Jackson's way too hot for this project. Even half the actors we've mentioned are way too hot for this project. Being an actor myself, I would definitely be confident enough to direct this saga. I could cast it well enough with the other actors I know. If only...Oh, and I just remembered my choice for Tegid. Paul Bettany. Brilliant man. Very bardish.

For Nettles, I was thinking of the guy who plays Albus Dumbledoor in the Harry Potter movies. I hate to say this, but Simon's attitude and demeanor lead me to think of Leonardo DiCaprio. (puts up his flame shield)

If you've seen Napoleon Dynamite, he plays the lead character. Very funny movie. Hilarious. Well worth a purchase. I was being sarcastic about him, hoping that some maybe saw the film.
