How did SoA not win this poll...I think it's almost made for a good movie trilogy flow, like LOTR, though definitely NOT one movie. I would have to kindly disagree. I think the allure of SoA is in the complexity of its characters. Lawhead went to exceptional lengths to give personality and depth to each character. Movies are notorious for cheapening this aspect of great stories. Therefore, my vote went to the Pendragon Cycle. Although a similar argument could be made about Pendragon characters, I think the story itself would hold value even without the exceptional development of characters. Also, I think Pendragon has a more "physical" storyline that would be easier to portray in a movie. Thoughts, feelings, and mystical overtones are very difficult to recreate. Finally, the best thing about Pendragon would be the variety. No one likes a sequal or trilogy that simply plays off the original. Each has got to be a good movie in its own rite! You could do it with SoA, but I think it would be easier, and thus turn out better with Pendragon.

It's interesting that no one has mentioned Avalon as a possible standalone movie. I've always found it Lawhead's most fascinating book and it would work well as a starting point, because you wouldn't have to do too much to make a period picture. (Besides all of the good philosophy about having a true monarch.) Perhaps the only thing that would put a crimp on that one would be the "fall" of the British monarchy described in the book. The Windsors might not be too happy about being replaced by another line, regardless of whether it's in fiction or not.

The concept of Avalon has been done many times in movies, no one is ever interested.

I like Avalon a good deal as a stand-alone work--it's just that, amodman may be right--people don't like monarchs anymore; we're too bred to believe that liberty means "freedom to do whatever you want." And we Americans like doing whatever we want regardless of the consequences, thank you very much. It's a sad thing...but there will be no Leto II Atreides to save us from the brink of desctruction.

I actually have yet to read it and the historical fiction stuff (I count Pendrago as fantasy, definitely), but most everyone says the DK books are very, ummm, juvenille-ish. Not that that's bad, maybe even better for a movie, but usually books don't get made into movies unless they're amazingly popular or just plain amazing.

I really enjoyed them. While I did read them when I was a teenager, I've reread them since and still enjoy them greatly. The style is different from what SRL has used more recently but that isn't unexpected since authors grow in their ability.
I'm sure you'll enjoy them.
The battles in the second book are really great.

The battles in the second book are really great. For instance, the battle at the river. I can picture that entire scene.

I know what you mean. Great scene.
*spoiler*
Can you imagine the torture? The pain from that would be horrible.

I was trying to be vague and yet give some hint to what I was referring to. I didn't want to come right out and mention the torture and yet I can't recall the code for putting in a proper spoiler. If I could remember that, I would have gone into much more detail.
