CoI: You are in for an absolute feast...unfortunately, however, there is still no publication info on A Feast for Crows
Also, as to amodman not having read Dune (and, I mean, only the REAL Dune books that Frank really wrote), that's a shame; the six Dune books are on par with The Lord of the Rings.

I just started A Game of Thrones. It's VERY good. ;D They get better each book - with the characters and plot lines getting much mroe fleshed out and complicated (but in a good way). Although, SoS really made me quite mad a few times as it was the worst of the three in really interesting cliffhangers with a hundred pages or mroe to go to get the conclusion. There were tobs of chapters that were only like 5 pages long, just enough to get you interested, but then it'd jump to the next person, *grumbles*.

I couldn't disagree with amodman more. SoS has been the best Martin book so far. The complaints you seem to have with it (i.e. the number of cliffhanger and short chapters) are all part of the narrative structure. You (the reader) are already in a position of knowing far more than any of the characters...without some of those short chapters, Martin would either have to kill the story by removing his careful pacing, or else kill the fun of reading it by telling you everything from a particular POV at once.
btw, my favorite characters are Tyrion, Jon Snow, Daenerys, and Bran

The books are very well written... I just wish Mr. Martin would be a little more sparing with the swears.

I'm familiar with the way medieval people talked, but I wish he'd tone it down a bit (more).

I'm reading two books right now. The first one may cause heated discussions but I'll own up to it..."A New Kind of Christian" by Brian McLaren and "Empyrion: The Search for Fierra" by SRL. I can't find book two of that series. I keep looking at Half-Price Books but haven't had any luck.

I mean, Martin's use of the f-word didn't bother me near as much as the description of Daenerys doing what she does when she gets to the ceremony with the Dosh Khaleen.

I guess we're pretty much opposite then... gore doesn't bother me much. [You do mean eating the stallion's heart, right? Or is she going to the dosh khaleen sometime in the next book-and-a-half?]

Eating the heart--thinking about it makes me gag to this day.
(I was trying not to write spoilers)

I will probably watch it but I have reservations about the movie. I loved the book. There is a quote that a librarian friend of mine often uses, "Never judge a book by its movie." In my opinion, movies never do justice to the books they are based on.

I meant to get across that SoS is the best in terms of story, as CoK is better than GoT, etc. Except that the structure and length of the bhapters bugged me to no end in about the middle section of the book. The first and last sections (dividing it in thirds) were fine. Don't get me wrong, it's still perhaps one of the best fantasy novels I've read ever.
