You will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not troubled.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling. -- Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment, until the indignation is past. For behold, the LORD comes out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. -- In the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed by. -- Your life is hidden with Christ in God.

He will not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

They have persecuted him whom You have smitten.

It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they come! -- Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death. -- They spat in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him, saying, "Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is the one who struck You?" -- Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said, "He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross." -- Truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done.

It pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief.

Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? "Father, save Me from this hour"? But for this purpose I came to this hour. "Father, glorify Your name." Then a voice came from heaven, saying, "I have both glorified it and will glorify it again." -- "Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done." Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.

Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. -- Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. -- For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. -- The cup which My Father has given Me, shall I not drink it?

The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him. -- My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. -- My Elect One in whom My soul delights!

You who are the LORD's remembrancers, do not keep silent.

You ... have made us kings and priests to our God. -- The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets; and these shall be to you as an ordinance forever throughout your generations. When you go to war in your land against the enemy who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the LORD your God, and you will be saved from your enemies.

I did not say to the seed of Jacob, "Seek Me in vain." -- Their voice was heard; and their prayer came up to His holy dwelling place, to heaven. -- The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry. -- Pray for one another. ... The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Come, Lord Jesus. -- Do not delay, O my God. -- Looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most to be pitied.

Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. -- Having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession.

Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." -- Whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

We walk by faith, not by sight. -- Do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.

It is I; do not be afraid.

When I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, "Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last; I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, amen; and I have the keys of Hades and of death. -- I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.

"Woe is me, for I am undone! ... My eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts." Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said, "Behold, this has touched your lips, and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged." -- I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, and like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.

If anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. -- Inasmuch ... as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil. -- And having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. -- I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now have come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death."

Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

We finish our years like a sigh. The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. -- Here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come. -- I am the LORD; I do not change. -- Our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself. -- The creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. -- Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come.

Awake to righteousness, and do not sin.

You are all sons of light and sons of the day. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

It is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand; therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. -- Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. -- Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit.

Lay aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. -- Little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.

My sheep hear My voice.

Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.

I sleep, but my heart is awake. It is the voice of my beloved. He knocks, saying, "Open for me, my sister, my love, my dove, my perfect one." I opened for my beloved, but my beloved had turned away and was gone. My heart leaped up when he spoke. I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.

Speak, for Your servant hears. -- When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, "Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house." So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully. -- I will hear what God the LORD will speak, for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints; but let them not turn back to folly.

May 12 -- Morning

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. -- You did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. -- He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself.

In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. -- In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. -- That in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Reproach has broken my heart.

Is this not the carpenter's son? -- Can anything good come out of Nazareth? -- Do we not say rightly that you are a Samaritan and have a demon? -- He casts out demons by the ruler of the demons. -- We know that this man is a sinner. -- He deceives the people. -- This man blasphemes. -- Behold, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.

It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. -- This is commendable, if because of conscience toward God a man endures grief, suffering wrongfully. For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps; who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth, who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously. -- If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you.

Pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

The true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. -- Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, "Here I am." -- Whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him.

Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. -- Let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord.

If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear. -- My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins.

My heart pants; my strength fails me.

Hear my cry, O God; give heed to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

When [Peter] saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!" And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" -- If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. -- He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. -- The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. -- Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power.

The fellowship of His sufferings.

It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master.

He is despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. -- In the world you will have tribulation. -- Because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none. -- At my first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook me.

Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head. -- Here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come.

Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
