AHHH!!! It ended right before another climax - it built up to a desperate point then left you hanging! (No pun intended... or is there? Yikes!) WHAT HAPPENS?!!!

True, things don't look too good for our friends at the close of this book. While we wait to see how the imminent crisis plays out, I'd like to say this: Scarlet takes the story a good deal farther along into the realm of historical fiction. This trilogy is shaping up to be much, much more than just fantastic lore relocated. I was quite (pleasantly) surprised by how much of what is going on at the time is being made part of the tale, including events beyond the borders of Britain and Normandy.

It was SO GOOD!
I think that in Hood Stephen was trying to find his voice. He found it in Scarlet and the book took off.

Absolutely loved it. The style of narration (combo 1st person and 3rd) appealed to me so much that i'm revamping my own novel to use it. I thought the tale of Manawyddan's Revenge fit so perfectly into the tale. Does anyone know if Lawhead made all his Celtic tales up himself, or whether he got them somewhere else and tweaked them? they're fantastic! I wish I could just have a collection of all the Celtic tales throughout the Song of Albion, the Pendragon Cycle, now these!
I agree with CoI; I think Lawhead's become much more free with his style and simply letting things flow. It's from the heart and it sounds like it, so it wraps us up in a tale that submerges us completely in the emotion of Will. very inspiring as a writer; very moving as a reader.

Okay, so I finally have gotten around to ordering Scarlet with the birthday money. So, hopefully it will arrive next week and I will get to read it.
For Dred, I'm not really sure I can read all of those books in 3 years, but at least in that period I should be able to put a pretty good dent in it to keep it from becoming overwhelming.

I still stand by my comment that "Hood sucked" (sorry Dred). But I still love Stephen like he was my own ...uh...son?...father?...cousin?...whatever, anyway, my devotion to him is unending and I am not his fairweather friend. My copy of Scarlet is in the mail rushing it's way to me as we speak (that's a huge exaggeration when it comes to Canada Post). I'm going to re-read Hood in preparation for the arrival of book #2. I will admit that I may have just been in a bad mood when I read the first book and I am more than willing to eat crow (or raven) if the need arises. Of course, I've never been wrong about anything in all my 41 years, so it is doubtful that my opinion will change. I HAVE SPOKEN~~~

I know Danath. That was kind of a joke about reading them all in that time period. It would be a massive undertaking to be sure.
Well, let us know what you think when you've gone back through Hood and read Scarlet, Maidryn. I know there are books that I struggle with and some I'll never go back to reread and others just caught me at a bad time. Besides, not everyone is going to like every book they read no matter who the author is.

Although Dred, now I think I might just have to take it as a challenge to see how far I can get. Starting with Scarlet when it gets here.

Excellent. I love challenges and setting them for others can be a lot of fun.

Well, I got my copy a couple weeks ago. I've read the first four chapters and I LOVE it. It's already better than Hood. The way he bounces back from person to person is AMAZING. Unfourtunately, unlike most of you, I have difficulty concentrating on more than one book at a time, and with the ungodly amount of reading I have to do for school, and with my also newly aquired copy of the latest Brian Jacques novel, I haven't been as "buried" in it as I probably should be. And that's all I'll say for now. I'm not spending any more time in this thread because of the spoilers.
