This thread will be dedicated to throwing out ideas on all things related to the RPing aspect of our house. In here we can also share what is going on with our characters if it is something that isn't necessarily easy for others to find. This means that as we get further into the RPing and the threads get longer, people can ask questions and get a feel for what has already transpired.
Have fun and let me know if there are things you would like to see done differently or are interested in trying yourself. I'm very, very open to everyone's ideas. This is for all of us to enjoy.

Alright! I'm trying to work out my RP character and need to know if there are any rules about what can be brought over (ie-animals) into Sherwydd. In the books animals went back and forth so I didn't think it would be an issue but a character bring something specific over...didn't know if there was a solid feeling one way or the other about it and wanted to check first.
This is so fun!

I think we can do whatever we want. But I think it should make sense in the little world we're creating. Like if an animal comes over, we might wonder what it is. Of if a person comes through, he/she should do so in a way that makes sense to the environment.

Okay, are we going to stick with a cairn as the passage point? I'll establish one on the map, if so. If I remember correctly, there were other ways of getting across, but I don't remember them.
Could everyone please post here if they are going to be native or if they have crossed over at some point, and how long it's been since their last transition?
I came over just a few weeks ago, and am still relying on a few modern tools as I try to establish my new life. I am aware that there are people who came over before me, but have no idea where they are at this point, so I take anyone as native who acts that way.
I came with a team most of which will soon be returning. (ok, I'm thinking a secret society of guardians here, and a small team of perhaps five people who cross over. Those who remain will be there for long periods of time to learn as much as they can about life on the other side.) An, as yet, undetermined number of people will remain behind if you want to join my group. If you don't, that's fine. I'll just let them all build me a house and disperse out of the picture. Should you decide to be one of the team, feel free to use my character to help you build.

I was thinking on being a native. But I might like to cross over sometime because it would be interesting to see this world from the eyes of an Albion native.

I'm going to go native as well, but I'm still working on character development.
BTW Dred, where is the map for the region going to be that you and karenee are working on? Shouldn't it be in this thread or a separate Sherwydd: Tools and Maps type of thread?
Also regarding tools... to help you pronounce the name of this town/city/area called Sherwydd, I will offer this quick reference. (using Lawhead's pronunciation guide as a ... uh ... guide)
Sherwydd = share with
The 'th' is pronounce like the 'th' in bathe, lathe or scathe. The accent is on the first syllable. The origin was designed with the concept of the RP thing being a common story or experience that we in the Albion house are sharing. It is also meant to pay homage to Tolkien's "Fellowship" and with a bit of a stretch touch on Lawhead's plans to write about Robin Hood and the Sherwood Forest.
Enjoy!

Where to begin.... I will have crossed over but it will have been better than 10 years in Albion time since my initial cross over but about four years since my most recent trip. I will have crossed over through a stream, similar to what happens to Simon at the end of the 2nd book.
I don't think it a bad idea that animals cross over but let's remember that this isn't something that happens all the time. People crossing back and forth wasn't exactly an every day or frequent occurence in the books. So, I would like to think that while animals and people may cross over, it isn't something that happens all the time. I hope that makes sense. If you disagree with that concept, please tell me why you feel it should be otherwise. I'm not making up all the rules for this, just putting my thoughts out for discussion.
As for the map, I was thinking about it being a separate thread that would provide easy reference for everyone. It would be updated and modified as need be but not a thread for discussion purposes. Just my initial thoughts on it though.
Thanks for the pronunciation guide. It does help.

Hey are we writing in present tense or past tense in Sherwydd? Sorry if that seems like a really tedious observation or request. I'm just silly that way.

I think for the most part we are writing in present tense but if get into describing things from our past it will obviously change tense a little bit. That at least is what I've seen thus far.

Something to think about. I figured that we would use what are called NPCs for the RPing. These are people that can basically be controlled by anyone. They don't necessarily figure into the main rolls for what takes place but they aren't limited to small parts either.
For example, if we were to have a problem with an invading force, that force would be controlled by those of us wishing to do so. We don't have to require a member of our house to be a bad person or in control of bad people.
I've alread made reference to people other than those of us already RPing right now. At least some of those people will be controlled by any of us wishing to do so. You aren't required to control anyone other than yourself but you also aren't limited to not doing so.
If you would like to have someone specific that you would like to control, a separate character from yourself, that would play in much more to the RPing that's fine with me. I would recommend that person then having a history, personality, etc. The same as what any other character would have.
Just some thoughts for you all to consider.
