I would like to say in advance to all you diehard Jane Austin fans, that I am sorry. BUT THE WORLD DOES NOT NEED ANOTHER MOVIE ADAPTATION OF PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. Sorry, I saw this as a movie preview today and I had to speak out. Din, just want to let you know I saw this one and it is the only watchable version I've ever seen. Kiera is unbelievable, but really, the entire casting part of the film is done incredibly well. Everyone fits their part. I loved this movie - I cannot say the same about all of its predecessors. I hope you give it a chance.

dgan, have you seen the one with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy? That one was cast too perfectly (it's an A&E mini-series). And I just can't see Keira Knightly as Lizzy. I've tried and it just doesn't work. Also, from what I saw in the trailers it looked like they played up the Dary and Lizzy romance too much (she is supposed to hate his guts almost the entire story).
On another note, a movie I saw fairly recently and absolutely loved was The Last of the Mohicans. We watched it in my American History class after studying the French and Indian war. Half the class was crying by the end of the movie.

you and I just have a different taste in movies, which is fine. I made it through about 90 minutes of Last of the Mohicans and could not take any more - it just moved entirely to slow. I don't even know how it ends.
I could not sit through the A&E mini-series either...it just catered too much to the female perspective of the story, that I lost interest. I won't make an argument that the new movie is more or less true to the book, but as a husband and father, I could simply relate to characters better in the new one than any other version I've seen.
Keira is awesome - she rose several notches in my favorite actors list after seeing that movie. And the 'romance' is not as you would think. It is no secret in the film that personally they have strong feelings for each other, but their ties to family and proper courtesy run deeper than their emotion. Which I think is an accurate reflection of the era. Maybe others won't like it as much as I did, but I would like to have people see it and find out if it changes their opinions.

One I picked up recently and watched again was The Village. An absolutely brilliant film... terrific suspense without any uneccesary gore, leaves me thinking for hours after I've watched it.

This doesn't really belong in this thread, but I'm too lazy to find a more appropriate place for it. Took my daughter to see Hoodwinked last night, and it was pretty stinkin' funny. It wasn't great, but it was entertaining - and it actually had less innuendo than a lot of kid's movies. Which is strange to say, since the plot is to find out who is smuggling the 'goodies'. LOL
But, no, it was actually pretty good. Definately a rental, at least.

This may be a tad late but I'll say it anyway. Keira is amazing... She's done an amazing job as an actress but oddly enough, I think her best performance was in "The Jacket."
But anyways, one movie that I would highly recommend to any one is "The Black Pirate" starring Douglas Fairbanks Sr. Simply amazing stuff. But be warned, its a black and white silent.
