My all-time favorite movies kind of come in genres:
Musicals: especially The King and I, Sound of Music, Hans Christian Anderson, Rogers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (the original one produced for TV).
Sci-Fi and Fantasy: especially the entire Lord of the Rings series, Star Trek even-numbered movies, Star Gate, The Last Starfighter, Star Wars (original set), Indepenence Day.
Legends: such as First Knight, 13th Warrior, Robin Hood Prince of Theives
Animated: Lion King, Alladin, Beauty and the Beast, A Bug's Life, Toy Story I and II, etc, etc...

my absolute fav -- (makes me cry every time I watch it) The Love Letters with Jennifer Jason Leigh and Campbell Scott.
Also love-- The Princess Bride, Pride and Prejudice, Sleepless in Seattle, While you were Sleeping, anything wonderfully romantic like that...
Weird fav-- The Court Jester with Danny Kaye (oldie, but funny, where "get it, got it, good" came from)

I love Danny Kaye films. Christmas in Vermont with him and Bing is a great film.
Do you like You've Got Mail? That is a great film. The way Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan work together in films is really remarkable.

Love all Tom Hanks/ Meg Ryan films, but my fav of theirs would have to be "Joe vs the Volcano". The Luggage Man and Ma'shall the Limo Driver are priceless!!

I would like to say in advance to all you diehard Jane Austin fans, that I am sorry.
BUT THE WORLD DOES NOT NEED ANOTHER MOVIE ADAPTATION OF PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.
Sorry, I saw this as a movie preview today and I had to speak out.

I was pretty surprised myself to see that there is another version of this film coming out. I think it kind of shows how little Hollywood is doing to come up with original work. A great deal of what they are dishing out is based on an earlier film or a remake. Come up with something original for us to enjoy.

It's similar to how I feel about Dante. Except that I like the Divine Commedy, and I don't like Jane Austin. But yeah--the world doesn't really need another translation of The Divine Commedy. There are already a couple thousand of them. We don't need to see another movie adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, where the only highlight will be Keria Knightley starring as Elizabeth Bennet. It is unnecessary, and pointless.

The only thing that looks good in the new version of Pride and Prejudice is Judy Dench as Lady Catherine DeBurgh. My sister's comment on the trailer was "Isn't Darcy supposed to be good looking?" And I personally don't like Keira Knightly as Elizabeth Bennet. She just seems wrong to me.
But then, no version could be as good as the mini series version with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy.

In a perfect world, all of the above would have faded from popularity long, long ago (like with the death of Jane Austin).
The last time I checked though, this was not the best of all possible worlds, and so things like Pride and Prejudice and Brittney Spears are unaccountably prosperous despite their shallow depth and irrational love plots. Go figure.

Poor din, don't you see the immense historical social class system that is inherently present and manifests itself so perfectly in the book, as well as the movie by A&E? Don't you see that it is a snapshot of societal strata that was not to be messed with? If you think it is shallow, you must not have read the book in depth within a historical context. Try that. Then you can accurately discuss it.
