Haven't yet. I have a tendancy to forget what I read especially if it has been awhile since I read it. So, I have to go back and reread the series, before I read the Half Blood Prince. But, I will read it for sure.

I picked it up on Monday and am half way through it. I'm enjoying it like I always enjoy these books. This one certainly is more serious and darker than the other ones, but that is no surprise. Rowling still throws in her bits of humor now and then. Quirky little things that make me LOL. Like the kids are in the midst of a serious conversation and all of a sudden something explodes and they go on like nothing happened.

i'm about 20 pages away from the end.....my eyes got so tired from reading it last night that my vision was blurring, so i had to put it down or else i would have finished it last night......i must say that i wasn't all that surprised at the "big surprise" she had, but i'm definitely hyped for the next book.

It was great. I was disappointed at first with the somewhat slow-pacing of this book, but the end and all of the "secret files" on You Know Who made it worthwile. I am eagerly awaiting HP7.

*ahem* Ok...here is my little list of theories: WARNING! This contains spoilers...don't highlight it unless you've read it or don't care about spoilers! 1. I believe Snape is still loyal to Dumbledore. I believe that Dumbledore had good reason to trust him, and notice it never directly states that Snape betrayed him. When Dumbledore says "Severus...Severus, please," I believe he is asking Snape to kill him. Why? I'm not sure but I think it is b/c a) He wants a clean, quick death devoid of torture, b) He wants to spare Draco the horror of committing murder, c) There is an unknown or undetected factor in his choice, i.e. the only way to get a Horcrux or something.
2. I believe that Remulus Black is R.A.B.
3. I think that Harry will die in book 7...but so will Voldemort.
That's it for now.

It was better and not quite as good as book 5 IMO, which was also what I thought the best one up until half. These reasons being the interactions between the characters made quite a bit more sense and was more interesting, whereas there really was nothing big going on whatsoever the whole school year (that the students were aware of). So, like it or don't. *SPOILERS* I did, however, find Harry's obsession with Malfoy (which was somewhat justified in the end, you know) irritating nonetheless. Furthermore, what's with this Snape being the Half-Blood Prince? Didn't we already establish the book was too old to be a student that was there during Harry's parents' time? Duh. (it could be he simply had an old book, but there wasn't a word of evidence to the point...) p.s. Bookwyrm, I couldn't disagree more with any of your points . 1. The reader was swayed way too much to believe Snape was good the whole time through the series besides Harry's beliefs, and him being good after all would seem too campy (sides, does it matter? He still killed DD - b**** gotta die, lol. 2. Possible...but kind of a boring answer IMO. 3. Not gonna happen...at least no permanently, lol. It's too popular a character, and Rowling isn't that stupid to piss off like half her fans. p.s. again - I dunno if I mentioned here before, but I thought Rowling was horrible at killing off Sirius. It seemed like drama for drama's sake and very immature in writing. However, I think Dumbledore's death was perfect. After, though, I realized there now seems to be a lack of strong characters (possibly Lupin...but not currently), and it would be rather boring Harry trying to fight the Death Eaters and all by hisself. As much as I hate coming back to life things, I never thought Sirius permanently died anywho. Perhaps he will be recovered with helpful hints from DD on the other side? Not as Harry's protector, of course, as his character has evolved past that - but as his ally and friend.

Personally, I'm convinced that the letter from "RAB" is another attempt by Voldemort to foil those trying to steal the Horcrux.

the R. A. B. bit had me stumped for a while, but i believe Booky may be correct......looks like i'll just have to wait like everyone else to find out......as for the Horcruxes, i think Harry is holding a real one and won't know it until the end of the seventh book. He'll hunt down and destroy all the remaining one, but won't realize he's holding the final one until the final battle.......and whether he will live through that final battle, i don't think he will.....i think he'll die and someone else (maybe Black or a combo of Harry's friends, Ron, Hermione, Neville, etc. will wipe Voldemort out)

I don't think Black is coming back. How could he?
I also don't think anyone but Harry will destroy Voldemort. Whether Harry dies or not is up in the air.

That doesn't necessarily mean he can come back. I just don't think he will.

Shazamm, I can't think of much to support that theory other than the pure drama of it. The only possible thing I could think of is Godric Gryffindor's sword...which I find extremely doubtful (so did Dumbledore, obviously). And if you might be reffering to the theory I'm hearing all over the place (which occurred to me right when I finished the book and was put down just as fast), I'll go ahead and mention it here. That is, the one that Harry himself (or rather, his scar) is Voldemorts 7th Horcrux. This, however, is impossible - seeing as how Voldemort never knew that Harry was going to kill him when he cast the Avada Kedavra on harry which marked him with the scar in the first place.
p.s. I forgot to mention, Lupin + Tonks = worst romantic relationship in fantasy/sci-fi in 2005!

grr. I just typed up this nice long response, and IE crashed. This wouldn't have happened on Firefox. Well, I'm tired, so I'll write a briefer one this time. I wanted to mention Sirius briefly. He's not coming back. One of the basic rules of her world is that DEAD is DEAD. She has gone to great lengths to establish that Sirius has died. To bring him back, in any way whatsoever, would seriously undermine Rowling's universe and the level of storytelling skill she has shown thus far.
Oh, and Snape's mother had the book before him; it's old because he used it secondhand. I'm not sure what your complaint was with that.
About the book, I enjoyed it. Those qualms I have with it are probably mostly the same as any of you have, and I won't go into detail, except to say I do wish Neville had been in it more. I thought the humor was much better balanced in this book. I enjoyed the insight into Voldemort's beginnings and his rise to power, the insight into Snape's life, and seeing Harry's character mature out of what he was in Order of the Phoenix. I especially loved the chapter with the Felix Felicis.
