I am going to read the bible front to back. I have recently heard about this 'karma' thing, and I am trying to improve my...how should I say it...my karma. I guess you could say. I think I need to know more about my religion anyway.

I applaud your goal. I've done it before and recommend it. I did mine in a tad over a year. I would suggest finding a list of books in a good order to read them. You can get bogged down in the Psalms and Proverbs, and the Prophets. Going back and forth between the OT and NT can help.
When you are ready to discuss anything, please post! I would love to get a good natured discussion going about things regarding the scripture. I'll be praying for your reading!

Find a good study Bible if you don't already have one. They help out a lot.
I'm in a study right now that will cover about 90% of the Bible. It's centered around different themes. Most people I talk to say that trying to read the Bible straight through is really hard if not impossible. Especially when you try to interpret everything that is taking place. In my mind that is where reading by theme would be easier.
The study I'm in will run for about 34 weeks. Meeting once a week for just over 2 hours and having independent study for about an hour each day. Very intense stuff.

Wow.
Good on ya for doing that.
I don't think I will ever do it though...it's just not something I've ever felt the need to do.

In college, one of our assignments was to read each chapter of the Bible and give that chapter a title. Interesting to condense a whole chapter into a single phrase sometimes, but very informative and challenging.
Hope your reading goes well!

That's okay if you'd prefer. If you're willing, post it here and maybe we can discuss it. Which ever you choose, I'm interested and will give you my thoughts on it.

I am challenged by this, so I also will try to do this. But via the internet this time. If anyone else cares to try, check out this: www.backtothebible.org/aboutus/email_entry.htmThere's all kinds of information you can get emailed to you on a daily basis. I'm going with the FaithWalk.

While I was reading it at home this morning, on the computer, my daughter came downstairs after waking up. I left mid-way through reading some of the scripture in Colossians, to start coffee or something. When I came back to it, she was reading it, too. In fact, when I scrolled down to read more, she exclaimed, "Daddy, wait!" She wanted to read more. *thinks that's wonderful* You see, I've been blessed already by this. The Lord is good!

I am in Isaiah and Thessalonians. (No, I'm not starting in Genesis.) So, I'm reading through and come to chapter 45, verse 7. Occasionaly, this is said about God and it causes me to stop and think.
5 I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me,
6 so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting men may know there is none besides me. I am the LORD, and there is no other.
7 I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the LORD, do all these things.
8 "You heavens above, rain down righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness grow with it; I, the LORD, have created it.
Verse 7 says He creates darkness and creates disaster. Strange thing from a loving God. I still believe He is, certainly, but what can this mean? Does anyone have a thought on this?

Strange thing from a loving God. I still believe He is, certainly, but what can this mean? Does anyone have a thought on this? Here is one way to look at it... What is darkness but the utter absence of light? What is disaster but the utter absence of prosperity? By forming that which is Good, does He not also create the very possibility (at least) of its opposite?
