I had to create an account just to pipe in and add my .02
To do this series the justice it deserves a few things must happen.
To give you a small background I own a small company that films and edits just about anything except adult, We have done numorous Concerts, tv shows, shorts, etc.
Anyway..
First thing first,
Shoot with Film, none of this digital crap.
Shoot on Location, Scotland, Ireland, London, etc.
No American Actors...Period. This series has one American in it and it would not need an American to portray Lewis.
CGI? Of course, Industrial Light and Magic, no question there, maybe pursue Pixar to do some film work for the first time.
Language? Well some of you might remember the 13th Warrior, one of the things I felt important was to follow the books language barrier for Lewis until he gets to Scathas school, same concept as 13th warrior, keep the language form the books there, no sub titles, then as he learns the language transition it to English so we understand, make sense?
Shoot All 3 movies at once. No way around it, and shoot it chronological as much as possible, when your done shooting book one, send it for CG and editing, same with 2, wrap up with 3.
Lewis should be portrayed by 1 person and that actor will have to change and grow just like in the book.
Look and feel...
The manifest world should be kinda grungy, dirty, bleached out, color less. not dark, dirty. When Lewis crosses over and the rest of the movie is in Albion it should be bright, colorful, vibrant to catch your eye, Tir Aflan should also be dark, grungy, etc. When Lewis comes back to the manifest work in the 3rd movie make it slightly grungy but alot cleaner, not as vibrant as Albion, but nicer.
This would be a very expensive movie to make, not only as each movie would have to be at least 3 hours each, but the CG needed for the Flight to Findargad would be intense.
Only 1 person really comes to mind to Direct, Peter Jackson.
Guillermo Del Toro is #2.
Gerad Butler is a great choice, but isnt Bran black? if I remember right 2 of the Ravens were described as "Dark" I assumed Negro and not just Tan.
Some of the stories Tegid tells would need to get cut for time, but the very important ones need to stay, it is hard to figure out which ones would not get put in.
Thousands of extras, possibly 4 years of work, countless seasons, tons of building sets, shooting, training, teaching, it would be up there with the Lord of the Rings, but larger.
But most importantly, Independent. If funded independently then a distributor (like Fox, etc) is found that leaves more creative control, nothing is worse than a studio making you cut out story, trimming it so it fits an actor of their choice, etc. And it would probably cost 6-700 million to do all 3 films right.
I listen to the audio books all of the time and I picture the camera movement, how that scene would be shot, how much CG, how Book 2 would be done with Tegids Point of View being blind, his visions, etc.
it could be done if the money was there.
Oh, and to throw you guys for a loop, how about Martin Freeman for Lewis, Bill Nighy for King Meldron Mawr, and if we could only turn back time for a younger Alan Rickman as Simon.....
