Hey, since the whole evolution thing didn't fit under the movie genre, I thought we might want to continue the discussion here. . .
So, go ahead with your thoughts:

I think given the response to my off-handed comment, I'll just keep my opinions on this matter to myself.

I think given the response to my off-handed comment, I'll just keep my opinions on this matter to myself. I don't care if people know my opinions. That's what they are. Opinions. No on can tell me that their "opinion" is any more "fact" than mine, unless they were there at the beginning of all things. Please don't hold back, Dinadan. Everyone has the right to their own opinion in this forum. Here's my opinion on the whole thing. God created the world. We have no idea how long "a day" means to God when we read "a day is like a thousand years to the lord." And once creation happened, we don't know how long it took for Adam to name all the animals. Obviously, Adam had to be around for a while, because he wouldn't have been lonely if he had only only been around a day. And then Eve was created. How long were they together? Age... time... it had no meaning until Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden. And when Cain killed Abel, God placed a mark on his head for "all who found him" to know that he was marked by God. All who found him? The Bible only talks about 4 people? My point is this... The Bible leaves things out. It was an oral history and Moses ended up writing it down many millinia after Adam and Eve had died. Do I believe God created everything? YES Do I believe the Earth is Millions of Years old? NO Do I believe it is older than 6,000 years? YES Do I believe mankind has evolved in small ways since creation? YES Am I a heretic? NO That's my take on it. Just remember, this is a family forum, so let's not flame each other over this or I'll just delete the thread. Please, have fun with it. ;D

I think I'll just counter with my own question:
Why does it matter?

I think I'll just counter with my own question: Why does it matter? Because there are people in this world that believe that if you do not believe 100% of everything the bible says on face value, then you aren't a true believer.

Because there are people in this world that believe that if you do not believe 100% of everything the bible says on face value, then you aren't a true believer. You're right, Dinadan. I had a discussion with someone who swore that Moses wrote the entire Pentateuch. They didn't know how to respond when I asked them how Moses wrote about his own death at the end of Deuteronomy. ;D I even had an arguement with some lady because I didn't use the KJV. She claimed it was the only "correct" translation. I told her that King James had it 'Stylized' to the era.... She countered with.... "Well, if the KJV was good enough for Jesus, then it's good enough for me." I laughed at her and asked what she meant by that since King James came along LONG after Christ.... she said, "Well, every word Jesus spoke is in Red." Yep... That about sums it up for me.

lol...I have plenty of friends who will swear up and down that Jesus wrote the bible...in English! And that he had blond hair, blue eyes, perfect teeth, etc.
I say...the bible is a bunch of religious texts. It has been edited and translated God knows how many times. It was written by men...divinely inspired men, yes, but men nonetheless. I believe other religious texts are necessary, or at least not condemnable.
On the creation issue...why couldn't evolution have come about? God is God...if he wanted there to be evolution, then there would have been...who are we to say He didn't?

Well, I for one have a real hard time believing that evolution is fact. For one, there's no way to prove it - no witnesses. Yes, there's carbon-dating stuff but that is faulty and you still can't prove it works beyond 5 thousand years. All that is just theory. I believe that a loving God created everything and still does. I believe he created each of us with a purpose, and that makes more sense to me than me being some randomly formed blob of molecules. I'll probably be laughed for this, but I also believe it took just 6 days to create it all. Adam and Eve were the first humans. And the great flood happened over the entire earth. Almost every culture believed this in some form until the last couple hundred years. I do believe in Natural Selection, but that it weeds out changes in species instead of favoring them. Well, that's my belief anyhow.

I think Joshua finished the book and then started his own.

I must say...I don't really read the bible. The only books I read are Ruth, Esther, Exodus, Sirach, and Maccabees 1 and 2. Hmmm...those are all in the old testament...interesting pattern there...

Personally, I take the days as face value. If God says days he means days. Otherwise, we might have the Sabbath every 7,000 years .
