My daughter wrote a story out long-hand as a 2nd grade project. I know I am biased, but I was astonished. She was not given any direction or supervision to speak of, so I will try to repeat it here as it was written. Grammar, spelling, and punctuation verbatim, so you get an idea of how old she is. Hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1 - A Scelatin and a Vampire In My Kitchen!
Here I am on the couch and I am not scared of anything. But I will never forget when I was five years old. It all started one morning I was walking to the kichen...and a scelatin and a vampire was right in front of me! They both said, "I'm hungery!" They both were walking tord me!
Chapter 2 - Evryone Eaten!
I ran out of the house the vampire and the scellaten said, "Come back!" I ran all the way to my friend Billy's house. <scary doorbell sound> I rang the doorbell and the door opened CRREEEEEEEK!! A gohst was right in front of me! It said, "Hello, please can you go..." But before it could finish I ran to my Grandma's house.
Chapter 3 - Only One Left!
I knocked on the door and it opened. A witch was right in front of me! In the background I could see a half kneated scarf, grandma's glasses and a old wooden cane. The witch had eaten grandma! "Come in," the witch said, "I was just going to put something in the oven." I ran to the park and sat down at a bench. My eyelids were getting heaver and heaver. I lay down and fell asleep.
Chapter 4 - Grampa Explains Eveything
RRRRRRRRR! I wake up. RRRnRn! I sat up. I saw Grandpa mowing the lawn. "Hi, my little sunshine," he said smileing. Grandpa was very poor. He just had a very small hut, a radio and a rocking chair, a cooler and a pet owl to keep him company. But then he ran inside and ran to me holding something. "I have saved up my money and bought you this," Grampa said. I froze. Grampa was holding a devil skin! "W-What are y-you going to do with that d-devil skin," I asked sputtering. Grandpa said, "I understand completely. Come inside would you?"
Grandpa sat in the rocking chair and I sat down on the cracked straw floor. "You see," Grandpa began, "There is a holiday. It is called Halloween. People dress in animal, vampiere, witch and things that are costumes. They get bags and go to houses and ring the doorbell and the door opens and people give you candy. And there house has spooky decorasenes on it," Grandpa said. He gave me the devil costume. I put it on. Grandpa gave me a plastic bag and I had the best Halloween ever!
