Hey, has anyone actually got a novel project underway? How far have you got and are you going to do something with it? Would love to hear!

Not at the moment. My last attempt made it to twelve pages, so I'm waiting for a good idea to hit me this time.

I'm currently working on a collection of short fantasy stories. Like CoI, I've found I'm not writing very much before I stop, so I thought I'd write a bunch of stories (eleven) and tie them all together in the end.

My problem is I have far too many ideas =P Some I'd like to see as animations, others as comics and a couple as a book. I have one idea that I think I may start up soon is based on the the whole pulp genre of Flash Gordon and John Carter of Mars but needs some illustrations that I'll end up doing, but I want to make sure I do a good job of them before I put in too much time in the novel and have to find someone else to do the illustrations which I'll most likly never be happy with.

I never thought being an author was so much work... particularly non-writing work! You have to be well-organised, a marketing pro, a web designer, a graphic artist, a PR expert, and your own secretary... sure is fun, though. It just eats your time...

LOL I'm 30,000 words into a book I haven't touched for a year. May follow-through strike me out of the blue one day so I finish it!
I find there is much to learn about authorship, so while I laze around attempting to maintain my home and kids, I'm studying (just so I don't forget that I do intend to write a book one day). Thankfully, should I ever miraculously get published I have a marketing pro for a husband, so that part of the deal is properly cared for. *grin*
It isn't coming up with the stories, it's getting them down before they leave again...

I'm currently working on a project and have thus far complete something like 20,000 words. Now, please understand that when I say I'm working on it, it means that I'm not doing anything to it and haven't for probably 6 months.

It's always surprised me when other people have the same procrastination problems I do. ;D
I actually finished one book, although it was torture, and it's such a mess now I had to set it aside...sealed in a box and rolled into a vault and locked away for all eternity...
Right now I'm about 60,000 words (halfway-ish) into another book, and it's going better, even if I have to kick myself repeatedly to actually write anything.
But the work WILL pay off. Even if you can't market it, if you can just finish it, you'll prove to yourself that you can, and you get better, and try again...

Luckily I'm surrounded by family and friends who love to read/write as well, so I get lots of encouragement. Unfortunately, encouragement doesn't write books...

Amen from here too. Finishing a manuscript is worth a lot and makes you feel great - I know so many authors who stopped in the middle, started something else and never completed anything. It's a shame. It does take discipline - there are parts that resist being written with all their might - but DO IT and you'll never think of yourself the same way again.

I have a problem when it comes to full-length novels -- i can never seem to finish one. I abandoned my last attempt a fifty-three thousand, have hit a brick wall at fifty-thousand with my current work... *sigh* BUT, i am determined to finish this one. I started out badly but i think i just need to power through it, just to finish something.

Have been working on the same novel since the tenth grade, but kept on rewriting and then stopping. Right now, since I have graduated, I am focusing on getting a grounding start so that I can finish this book before I am to old to type.

I'm working through the second draft of my first completed novel right now (the title is Koriyen), and it came in at about 139,000 words, which was right about perfect. I'm at work now on the sequel and another novel in a different universe, sort of going back and forth as the inspiration strikes me. And when neither of them are particularly inspiring, I churn out short stories However, I literally have 20+ novels in my head waiting to be written, in a couple different universes/worlds. I can't write fast enought to keep up with my mind...
