I really need some help here. (haha, as if that was any different from the usual ) In my story, I need a mythical creature. I have been searching my brain - as well as the internet - but I can find the one I'm looking for. I thought of making up my own but that sounded cheezy. Let's see if anyone can help. Here's what I need: 1. My creature must be large. Very large. The size of a building is nice. ;D 2. My creature must be notorious. Since this creature will be evil in my story I want something that has, for the most part, always been considered evil. 3. My creature can't be too well known or overused. I want one that many people haven't heard of. I don't want a dragon. 4. My creature can't be cliched. For instance, the Balrog isn't overused, however it is far too associated with Tolkien. I want to be as original as possible. Can anyone help me, here? I am already way behind my self-appointed schedule and I'm going nuts!

Troll? Giant? Larger-than-usual carnivore? Dinosaur?

Your best bet is to go to Barnes and Noble and pick up a book called, "The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Mythical Creatures". You could also check out this website. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_legendary_creaturesI used it extensively for Brander, and now for Pangari.

Troll? Giant? Larger-than-usual carnivore? Dinosaur? Hmmm. Dinosaur is interesting. Verrrrry interesting. Twyrch, I found a cool creature on the site that I'll probably use, but not in this specific case. Anyway, thanks everyone. I'll look up the book next time I'm at B&N.

Do you acctually have to show the monster? I've always felt that the greatest fear was what can not be seen. It lets the imagination run wild for whomever the reader may be. But as far as Evil goes, evil people always freak me out the most.

Well, a hydra or a chimera is a good choice for a large, not often used monster. Or maybe a basilisk (although they aren't always large).

I guess an all-consuming blob would not be acceptable???
