So, my teacher has assigned us to revise our essays for 8-10 hours a week. . .that's a minimum. . .he wants to get us in the habit of writing and revising. . .you know, so that you can become stronger writers and all that jazz. . .well, here's my problem. . .I'm doing good to find 8 hours a week without going batty and that's really hard. I have no clue on what needs to be revised. I know my story sucks. . .I hate it with a passion now that I've been working on it for four weeks in this mode. . . Anyone got some brilliant ideas for me to find new ways to revise? I mean, seriously. . .I'm supposed to find new ways of looking at it every time I sit down and I feel like I just spend an hour hating the whole story and wanting a new, fresh story rather than the pile of crap I have to work with

I hate teachers who want to see the whole process. My writing process is one step... write! Sorry I don't have any advice for you, just sympathy.

I'm afraid I'm in pretty much the same boat as CoI. No advice but lots and lots of sympathy. I hated every moment of the class when I had to do what you're doing now. I just sit down and write. I edit as I go and then maybe reread one time once it's all done just to be sure I didn't seriously mess something up.

*Sigh* I understand the value of revision. . .I mean, my story has changed a lot for the better, but I still am at a lost on what to do with it.

Aha! I found just the thing for you at the book store last night. *goes hunting* Ah, here's the link... Click here. There is a link to his writing workshop book on the page too, which might be closer to what you want. Stop by a bookstore, or pick it up from the library and see if it will help! I'm considering purchasing it to remind me of different ways to look at my writing, so perhaps it might help you also. Oh, yeah... I forgot. You'll love this site, too. It's full of ideas for working on manuscripts. www.hollylisle.com/fm/Workshops/index.html
