I finally finished all of my editing. I even wrote that extra scene I was debating over. I was ready to get it printed and mailed! Then my roommate had to go and ruin all my joy by saying she'd have time to read it over spring break. I'm torn, now, because I'm not even sure I trust her to do it, but I really think it would be good for me to have her observations. *Beats head against table* Argh.

Well, It has waited this long, right? Another week can't kill you. Unless you're under a time constraint from a publisher. You want to make sure you send your best and finest work to the publisher. So if that means being patient for a week or so, perhaps it is worth that to you. Your Call.

I think I'd let her read it... I really think it would be good for me to have her observations. this is correct. A friend can critique a book better than a publisher because a publisher is ultimently just trying to make money.

I agree let her read it, but be careful when listening to her comments you don't want to go back to the computer andchange things JUST on what she has said.

Well, the thing is this: friends are normally a very unreliable source of criticism, because either 1) they don't want to hurt your feelings or 2) they don't know what they're talking about. KT, however, is very exceptional in this regard. She has the background and insights that would be useful, particularly in technical areas that I may overlook. On the other hand, the sort of things I write aren't really her preference, so I may just be wasting my time. All in all, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to wait a week longer.

Genre shouldn't matter. If it was me I'd be patient and let your friend have a look at it and then ponder a wee while over any suggestions made or maybe try some suggestions and see how they compare to the original.

Well, she got through most of it, but she's lost the printout of the fourth part...she did give me some good feedback on what she read. I'm planning on finishing up a few things this week and sending it out either this weekend or next week. Everyone wish me luck!
