Ok, I'm trying to get this stupid book edited...I hate this character's name, and I can't find a good one to replace it. It has to be a sort of normal name (American, English, etc) because everyone else's mostly is. It can't start with a D, J, E, N, H, A, or K. So...if anyone wants to throw some names out there, I'd appreciate it.

Does "name death" mean that your reserve of names has died?
Or are you trying to name the Character Death? In that case I would suggest some variation of Thanatos--but that isn't exactly normal, is it?

Some people don't have regular names, though.
Who were his parents? What kind of people? When did they have him? What sort of name do people like them give their baby?

Yeah, I should have given more bg info. Um..he is a guy, because I realize I didn't actually specify that. He's not a major character; he's only important historically. He's rich, pretentious and it has to sound good with Arlington.

Pepperidge.
Mr. Pepperidge Arlington.
"Yes, sir, though I say it myself, I had a most devoted daughter in Lassy, sir, and was broken hearted when that foul tramp [the prince of Persia--ed.] seduced her, carried her off to his decidedly lower-class city [Persia--ed.] and made her his scullion. Why she should ever leave my roof, sir, is a mystery to me, sir...."
Bobby's not quite right--Robert, though....
Robert Arlington (Oh, Twyrch got that one....)
Richard Arlington
Frank Arlington
If he's rich and pompous, you should definitely not go with a "normal" name. Give him something inflated:
Lewis Rushmore Thannis Arlington IV
That's my dollar and two cents.

I'm afraid I would have to laugh at him if his name was Bobby. That name doesn't his character at all.

Really, such a great general. Septimius Severus, I mean. *sighs* Oh, Pannonia....

I actually had Dic-kens in mind when I wrote that. Minor Canon Septimus Chrisparkle; the name sticks in one's head (thought the minor canon is quite a different person than we've outlined above.)

Hmmm, an interesting but normal-ish American name--something that will stand out without sounding outlandish and too fanciful? I find that a lot of Hebrew names fit that type of description:
Benjamin: can be shortened to Ben and it catches the attention. It sounds strong, but not arrogant or proud.
Jonah (except that you said no J's)
Caleb
Aaron
there. Those are some favorites.
