Bard Child! Thanks so much for posting your poem; it is full of rich images and feeling...I love it. It's been a while since someone else posted here--I'm beginning to feel like a thread-hog.

Here's my first poem on this thread. I wrote this one a looong time ago.
"The Battle of Tears"
"Listen, O warrior, to the battle of Tears, When Draan the wise elf-king cast out his fears, and battled the grears.
"Through mountain and valley he traveled, real fast, and arriving at the caverns at last, his magic he cast.
"See now, O reader, the great Greer approaches, With his beetles, and lizards, and chipmunks, and roaches, wearing golden broaches.
"The two armies met in a fearsome, bad crash, Elves against slimies, each with colored sash, and an ugly gash.
"To make long stories short, to make dull stories good, Draan won a great victory, the grears not stand would; all was good."

From this moment - just now - yeah, unedited...so yeah, things are misspelled and stuff. May all the sounds of laughter far And all the din of of singing mar The dreary outlook of your day Beauty to lure your mind away From depressions darkest toils And you escape as, foul, it roils Lured from your bed by scents so sweet Tears wiped away by friends you meet May this day be the very best You've yet encountered on your quest For peace and joy For good and worth But better yet than health and mirth Deepest, Greatest, Swift and Strong One who died so you'd belong So seek yet further, friend, this call Find Joy enough to share with all

If you're feeling quite bored, Or your knowledge needs shored Or you just think that history's the best, Well, come to the site Where with greatest delight You can join in a challenging quest To read every book In that glorious nook Where Lawhead's name beckons to all And questions discuss Because you, like us, Are by these books wholly enthralled.

Shall I again invoke thee as my muse? When I, of thee, did take my leave to write, Thou put'st alien pen before me to use. And did give these dark and blinded eyes sight, To see that which was there but was obscur'd. Thou did'st lift the veil from mine eyes and mind, And I from a long, dark slumber was stirr'd. Thou tak'st my hand and helped my way to find. Thou giv'st me thine own hand that I might feel, That I also might feel the world as you, That I might know what is false and what real. And I have come to know life as you do. Thou hast given life meaning and reason, And purpose to see it through each season.

I dug out my best piece of emo/Tolkien poetry from a few years ago for you: ship sails under moon wave-tossed, gliding on silver foam o'er deep waters Now I have to compose an elegy to the other two good poems that I lost...

[red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red] Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things. But do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same {yourself,} that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? [red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red] But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS: to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. [red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red] {There will be} tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek, but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God. [red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red] For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law; for {it is} not the hearers of the Law {who} are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified. For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, on the day when, according to [the] gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus. [red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red] There is no escape one day each one who has lived will die! Beyond comprehension, Beyond desire, Death will come! We can not run , We can not cheat it! The proofs in the pudding so they say – [red]Death will surely come with a final certainty![/red]
Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; [red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red] because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law {comes} the knowledge of sin. But now apart from the Law {the} righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, [red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red] even {the} righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red] being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; [red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red] whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. [red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red] {This was} to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; for the demonstration, {I say,} of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. [red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red] Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith. For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. Or is God {the God} of Jews only? Is He not {the God} of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one. [red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red] [red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red] [red]Certainty Final Certainty Death will surely come with a final Certainty![/red]

On a lighter note I smile. They smile back at me. Smiling I wave and spread the love he gave- Smiling I sit - Smiling I sit in contemplation of Smiles and what they're worth Smile

A poem dedicated to the holidays coming up... A Mother's Sacrifice Peace and Goodwill to Men!
There was a little mother, in the barn and in the hay, who had a little baby born on Christmas day. The job God set before her the enormous task at hand, Filled her with such awe she could not understand. Her precious little baby, All snuggled in her arms, This peaceful little child would someday become a man. The man would save the world, cleanse our sins upon the cross, Sacrificing himself, Just to save the lost. So when you get all busy, in the holiday you get tossed. Remember a mother's sacrifice, and the boy child that it cost.

Ode to Hebrew
I take up the tiny, fat book solid, black backwards letters conquering pure white pages englishless punctuationless, paragraphless masoretically vocalized textually criticized the ancient words still sing to the Jews and to me. This book is the Bible: in the beginning I learn to read its verb-subject-objects its genderless ‘the’s and masculine/feminine nouns its possessive pronouns attached to the end and all the ‘and’s. Factual. And lyrical. Blocks of solid square letters spun into four-beat lines of verse spidering across an english onionskin page. Guttural, consonant-driven. Transliterated words flavor and direct discussions, deep pryings into meaning this Tanakh is all the best of what has been thought and said. It is prophecy and history and morality and the revelation of God Baruch haba b’shem ADONAI*, the messiah who came and is coming.
*Blessed is he who comes in the name of ADONAI

Troparion (Russian Tone 4)
Oh holy and right-believing Justinian Blessed was your reign by almighty God; By your tireless labours Radiant churches were established; Driven by a desire for unity You attempted great feats of reconciliation. Therefore we laud your accomplishments And ask you to pray to God for us That he will save our souls.

Here's one of mine that I wrote a few weeks ago. I want to explain it, but I'm a firm believer of letting my work speak for itself. I'll discuss any questions, tho...
INDECISIUM by Dave Eisinger
I am the raven, I am the crow I am the dove that nobody knows I am the kestrel, I am the hawk I am the vulture that cannot walk
I am the man that quivers and qualms I am the man that shrinks I am the man that never knows calm Who acts and never thinks
But I am the man who holds the sword I am the man that grows I cannot break—as three-strand cord— I know I am not the crow
The victory shout clogs up my throat I choke and cannot sing My victory song has silent notes No melody left to bring.
I am the raven, I am the crow I am the dove wanting peace But I am the vulture that everyone hates Crying for war not to cease
I am the hybrid, the shattered purpose I am the hybrid, the shattered purpose The fire that burned itself The twice-sold slave, the Fool.
