I've never been overly crazy about the battle and war parts of a story, whether it's in a film or a book. It's like the gratuitous car chase or the outrunning of the fireball (totally superfluous). Then I picked up a Lawhead book. I never get tired of the battles. I've actually been moved to tears when I've read how Stephen has described the aftermath of a horrible battle. How the warriors died with honor. He always keeps them fresh and interesting and more than a little tense. Right on Stephen! Keep em coming.

One of the most moving battle sequences I remember occurs right after Merlin finds his wife, his unborn son, and her ladies of the Court all slaughtered. Provoked into a battle-rage, Merlin single-handedly exterminates the brigands who killed her. Afterwards, Merlin cries out for Lord Deat to take him too.
Heart rending!
