In every series SRL writes, he leaves mysteries unsolved, questions unanswered. These are the things that draw you in, fill the plot with wonder. They keep you coming back for more, but sometimes he never answers the biggest questions.! In real life such mysteries would simply evoke a sense of awe. They do within the scope of his stories as well. But the difference is that HE knows the answers to the mysteries he has left unanswered. One such mystery is in the Dragon King Trilogy. Perhaps, in my mind, the biggest mystery he has left unanswered. It is the Mystery of the Ariga. I kept expecting the real Ariga to reappear, and they never did. Though some normal people had taken on a faith based on the Arigas' teachings and inhabited the Arigas' abandoned city, the real Ariga never reappeared. Who were they? Why did they leave, and why so suddenly as is described, leaving food on their plates, fires burning in the hearth, etc.? It has been many years since I read the Dragon King Trilogy and so I am sure there are still other mysteries I could think of. This one, though, has never left me. Even now, years later, I feel echoes of that mystery in the Atlanteans/Ancients of Stargate. I feel the same sense of awe and wonder when I see archaeological shows that touch on a civilization's ruins. I think it would be fun to discuss such things and speculate!!

In Real Life these mysteries are often never solved either, for all the speculation we apply to them. I love that Lawhead feels free to leave mysteries unsolved and stories untold in his books. IMO, it makes them more real.

Although not a mystery in quite the sense that MoE described it, i think another of those mysteries is the whole Atlantis thing in Taliesin. He never really explains the reason for the political stuff that happens in the book (in Atlantis), and we actually don't get a whole lot of description about the continent/landmass as a whole. Interesting.

ONe thing I've always wondered, where did Taliesin come from?

I always wonder what happened to Lile (and how to pronounce her name).
