so i finished it today....friggin awesome!...i was expecting the death count, but didn't expect some of the deaths....they killed off Lupin, which i pretty much expected...but they also killed off Tonks, which was totally unexpected since the two of them had just had a kid and now that kid had no parents....and the worst death of all had to be Dobby....i mean, really....i thought he'd at least make it to the end battle....but he did die bravely and doing what he's always wanted to do....save Harry....and killing off one of the twins was just strange....i thought maybe they'd go down together, but oh well.....other than deaths, though, the book was great...lots of intrigue, action, and one or two gooey love scenes, but i suffered through those....oh, and i loved Mrs. Potter taking out Bellatrix...."NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU B%$*("...classic!

I thought it was good over all but I really hated that epilogue. . .lets rip it out and rewrite the ending so there is more mystery to the characters.
I didn't expect Tonks OR Lupin to die. . .Fred was a terrible death! I hate that one. . .how will George resume the business now!? as far as doby. . .I was more torn up about that death than Dumbledores. I don't think Doby should have died but that's what made it such a better book. . .all bets were off at that point, anyone could have died and a lot did . . . I kinda regret Collin dying. . .if memory serves me correctly he was the obnoxious kid that followed harry around in like book 2 or whatever. . .sad

Aha! I can now officially start reading the series, because it is finished. Maybe I'll just go rent a hotel room for a few days and come out at the end with a raging headache.

So after reading this, I went and reread the entire series again. And I just have to comment on how impressed I am with Rowling's ability to make everything fall into place.
And I have to say I was okay with all of the deaths except for Fred. Poor George.
And I thought Snape's story was beautifully tragic and tear-worthy.
But the thing I think I cried over the most was that...it's over. Harry Potter was a huge defining part of my childhood. There are no more potential plots to discuss, no more midnight lines to stand in, and no more wondering what comes next. I hope she tells us what happened to the Dursleys, and if Harry kept in touch with them or not. Oh well. All good things must come to an end.

I finally read it (it took only five hours). I didn't like the Hallows part; that seemed to make it a lot darker and more mystical than the rest. But I liked how some were redeemed in the end: Dudley, Kreacher, Ron, and Neville's becoming the leader of the resistance at Hogwarts.

Ah, Booky, there's always the midnight lines for the movie and late discussions and wondering on what the movies will leave out!

I loved the book! I loved the whole series, but I did enjoy watching her grow as an author.
I liked the bit about the hallows, because it was a huge temptation to most people and Harry passed the temptation for eternal life and power. In a way, it parrallel's Christ's temptation in the desert at the hands of Satan.
I'm sure we'll see another series sometime... Rowling merely said she was done writing Harry's story and wanted to enjoy life writing without a deadline. Granted, it will be a few years, but i'm sure there will be another series for a new generation to grow up with.

i would love to see maybe a short-story collection about background characters....like a story from Hagrid's days at Hogwarts....or a piece of Neville's future....something along those lines.

Well I finished the book about 4 days ago. It's much better than some of the first books which I enjoyed for the story. Pity about some of the deaths that took place and I wish she had done the epilogue differently but oh well. It's done with now.
