This was my first encounter with deLint, and he came highly reccomended by a good friend.
The story centers around issues of magic, art, the role of the artist in society, the faerie, and environmental destruction. In other words, the topicality of the novel really interested me a great deal. DeLint's style is approachable, easy to read, and pretty compelling. Even when you aren't exactly sure what is going on, the poetic nature of his prose keeps you reading along--and eventually, he explains things for you.
The strange shifting of narrative POV (from third person limited omnicient to first person and back) makes for some narrative confusion along the way--but luckily, the first person bits all come from the same (main) character.
It's a short but good read. In fact, my main criticism of the book is that it needs a little more length to fully explore some of the ideas it introduces. I think things get wrapped up a little too quickly.
