Well, this one isnt' as good as Powers' The Annubis Gates, but it is a fun and enjoyable read none the less.
If you happen to be a mythology/esoteric history buff, it'll be right up your alley.
The premise of the book is that in Vienne under the Zimmermann Inn, where the famous Herstwesten beer has been being brewed for a couple of thousand years before Christ, lies the fabled Herzwesten Dark--a beer with magical properties that keeps the Fisherking (the esoteric spirit of the West) alive forever. And the powers of the East are attacting Vienna in the 15th century to lay claim to the famous Beer, and killing off the Fisherking.
And it lies in the hands of one Irish mercenary and a group of historical misfits--under the employ of the sorcerer Aurelianus--to save the West from destruction.
