I love finding new sources for Christian sci-fi so I love the recommendation I have found here. With that in mind, I feel I need to return the favor and recommend the book Firebird by Kathy Tyres.
Though she is better known for Star Wars novels, she has written a very intriguing "alternate future" Christian trilogy: Firebird, Fusion Fire, and Crown of Fire. The alternate future part is that the Christ has not come yet, and so God's chosen people have remained separate and waiting and have moved into a futuristic/sci-fi society with space ships and the like.
It is a very interesting twist that stays true to theological basics and stretches the mind with the question, "What could society be like if Christ hadn't come when we know He did?"
I may not be explaining the premise of the alternate future very well--that's just what intrigued me to pick up the book at first. The story has so much more to it than that, which is what kept me. It is a good read!

That does sound like a very interesting read. Do you know when it was published?

Okay, just found my copy. It was published by Bethany House in 1999. After I picked up the first book, I remember having a hard time getting ahold of the other two. I ended up having B&N order them for me (but that was when I really didn't know much about the internet).

I think I started to read that book. The plot sounds familiar to me.

I have read the Firebird Trilogy two times and keep wishing there were more. It is a good read: well written, engaging, and heart-touching.

I'll just add my two cents here. I bought the trilogy, and that's saying a lot. I don't usually buy unless I know I'm going to read something multiple times. It's very well written and thought provoking.

I read Firebird and found it to be a good read... but Fusion Fire became a drudgery to get through and I finally had to put it down... her trilogy seemed to move from a great Sci/Fi novel, to a sappy love novel. *shrugs* Just my opinion...
