My favorite authors are usually ones which infuse a good deal of wisdom into their stories, giving certain characters really pithy quotes. Here are a few from Lilith by George McDonald:
"When one says to the great Thinker; --'Here is one of thy thoughts: I am thinking it now!' that is a prayer--a word to the big heart from one of its own little hearts."
"...the business of the universe is to make such a fool of you that you will know yourself for one, and so begin to be wise!"
"An evil thing must live with its evil until it chooses to be good. That alone is the slaying of evil"
"The fact is, no man understands anything; when he knows he does not understand, that is the first tottering step--not toward understanding, but toward the capability of one day understanding."
What are some of your favorite quotes?

"I have studied the race of men," Medwyn continued. "I have seen that alone you stand as weak reeds by a lake. You must learn to help yourselves, that is true; but you must also learn to help one another. Are you not, all of you, lame ants?" -The Black Cauldron by Lloyd Alexander
