Being Lawhead fans, and probably at least marginally fascinated by Celtic things, I won't be at all surprised if many of you have read Alexander's Prydain books at some point. I mean, come on, in terms of serial children's fiction, the Chronicles of Prydain are second only to The Chronicles of Narnia.
BUT,
I've just finished (last night just before midnight) Alexander's book The Arkadians which is set in a fictionalized ancient Greece. It was absolutely great. I really, really loved the hero of the novel, and the motley crew he picks up along the way. If you haven't read it, I reccomend it highly. Next up for me is The Remarkable Journey of Prince Jen--I hope it is just as good.

I read The Book of Three some time back, and was thorougly determined to finish the series out, but I never did. I have The Black Cauldron, though.
The Arkadians sounds good. I'll have to check it out.
[Pictures self slowly suffocating under the ever-growing pile of reading material.]

I absoballylutely love Lloyd Alexander's books! The Prydain Chronicles are my favorites. The Westmark trilogy isvery good too, although different, and darker than the Prydain books.

Oh, I know, my reading list is huge--but now that the regular semester is over and May Term has started, maybe I'll have some time to do some real reading again. Since I'm going to be home this weekend, I may have to make a trip the to ever-popular Books-a-Million.
Oh, and if these Westmark books are darker than Prydain (Ummm...Castle of Llyr being CRAZY dark), then I may just have to look for them. You know I love dark and brooding.
Which reminds me...maybe I need to read some Lovecraft tonight before bed....

I read the Remarkable Journey of Prince Jen some four years ago. <embarassed pause> You know, I had no idea who the author of that was until you just metioned it here. It's amazing how little I really know...

Oh, it's ok...I'm just a stickler for knowing who writes what I read (because, if I like something an author writes, I tend to obessess until I've read at least a majority of their work...but that's because I have issues...)

Wait, is this a recent author...? Cause I could swear I learned about Lloyd Alesander in English Literature History...

Llloyd Alexander is (to the best of my knowledge) still alive...although the majority of his best-known books came out in the 60s and 70s.
Oh, and while we're on the subject of Alexander, has anyone seen the terrible Disney version of The Black Cauldron?

I was actually about to start up a topic on here about lloyd alexander, heh I read the chronicles of prydain when I was young, but lost the set (I think I lent them to a friend) just recently I purchased the set again and my little sister has begun reading them, she really enjoyed the book of three and is starting the black cauldron now... and yes, I've seen the horrible disney film.. I don't fully remember it.. and that's probably a good thing.. but I remember it being a mix of the first and second books, and I remember how bad it was.. (disney ruined 'tuck everlasting' as well more recently.. it's a far too common problem.. though, I don't think 'the lion, the witch and the wardrobe' will be a flop, I have a feeling the director knows what he's doing) I can't wait to read the chronicles of prydain again, right after my last exam tomorrow... and I'm glad to read some reactions on some of alexander's other books. I may just have to look into them
(oh.. and btw, I have this flyer-type thing that lloyd alexander signed and mailed to my dad after he sent some fan mail or something to him years and years ago.. pretty nifty)

That is super slick, skyparker. Similar thing happened to me...I read the Prydain books when I was like 7 or 8, and then we moved and those books never turned up again. But I decided one day about four years ago to buy new ones.
But yes, I really love him as a writer. He's one of the ones I'd love to meet. I think he has an incredible sense of humor.

The Remarkable Journey of Prince Jen Is that about the Chinese prince looking for the perfect kingdom? I may have read it, but I'm not sure what the title was.

Well, I'll confess that I own the terrible Disney version; and that I do, on occasion, watch it. Not so much because it was a faithful adaptation, but just because of the innovations in Disney-style that it showed.
