I have some real issues with his later works in the Wheel of Time series. He's gotta snip some character threads here...too many plot lines... But his first 5 books are the best. Any debate on that?

I think pretty much everyone will agree with you that there are "issues" with the later however many, to say the least. I have a number of qualms with Jordan. He has too many female characters, few of which have any discernable names (Egwene, Elayne, Moirane, do we see a pattern?), much less personalities. He has too many characters in general, as you said, as well. He can't ever just get to his points; the first few books aren't that bad, but he gets more and more into the habit of drawing out a plotline as long as he possibly can. I'm tired of ranting now.

It's funny, what you said is exactly what I woud say about the Left Behind series.

I agree that his story was getting too drawn out. I was beginning to despair of ever finding the end of the story. It is even sadder to now realize that we will never be able to find out. I found after a few books that Jordan repeated himself too much. It had begun to irritate me that his descriptions of main characters were extremely redundant, especially if you read his books together. I will say in his defense, though, that he developed a highly intricate world, but by the time I got to the later books, I had forgotten about characters in the early ones. The last time I picked one up, I was about to pull one of my grandmother's strategies which is to list out all the characters on 3x5 cards as a reference.
