Has anyone read this book yet? I started to get into it and then began my own novel last May and haven't wanted to continue it until my novel is completed. If you haven't heard about it, you can check it out here . It is a novel by Christopher Paolini. From what I've read, it seems very good. Especially written by someone so young.

I just read it recently. It's good. Not great. Unoriginal in some ways, original in others. But I think that Paolini shows promise, and I wait for the next book to see where the story is going.

I refuse to read it because the only reason it's so popular is the amount of pushing people are doing into the fact that it was written by someone so young.

I refuse to read it because the only reason it's so popular is the amount of pushing people are doing into the fact that it was written by someone so young. I heard it was self-published because his parents are both published authors. There's even a controversy over whether he wrote it himself or had help from his parents who published it in his name.... It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I read it too. I agree with you all, its good but not fantastic or spectacular. The second part was a bit better than the first.

It's decent but gets dull quickly. The first part is best. It's more difficult to relate to later and I couldn't get into the second one at all.

My brother read it and he said that it isn't that well-written. "Drew," he said, "You can write that good." Which means it sucks.

I read it and thought it was amusing, but other than that, nothing special. But better than Eldest (the squel). I've tried twice to read Eldest, but both times I've found it simply too boring to finish. Which is an accomplishment I suppose, since I've read Tolkien and Frank Herbert and found both interesting.

Ok, I bought it but never read it. However, my good freind Major Jesse read it and he loved it. So he and I and my fiancee went to the movie on Saturday and it was pretty good. Not the greatest mind you but definitely decent. It was along the lines of LoTR/ The Lion the witch and the wardrobe or the Sci Fi channels Ursula K. Leguinn Earthsea movie as far as the quality. Anyway god bless guys and Happy holidays.

Are you saying that LOTR/The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe fall into the same category for quality as the Sci Fin channels Earthsea movie?
Please tell me you're not saying that because I must strenuously object if that is the case.
I'm likely to see Eragon sometime in the near future and I hope to read the book soon as well just for comparison's sake.

The book is better than the movie, as far as storyline goes...the movie, as always, rushes through the character development stuff to get to the action. On a fun visual scale, though, the movie was well worth seeing.
While Eragon was a fairly basic fantasy story, I enjoyed reading it. I'm not saying it goes on my list of all-time favorites, but I'm not scraping my brain either. A nice, enjoyable, relax-for-the-evening book.
I hope book two takes care of at least a few of the interesting hints of deeper roots I noted in book one. If it fails to do so I shall be disappointed, as those hints were >half the interest for me.
