Anyone else read any R.A. Salvatore? I don't like the new forgotten realms stuff as much as the old, but it's still fun fantasy. I love his Dark Elf Trilogy, Icewind Dale Trilogy, and DemonWars Saga. Though he well pissed me of like 50 times in the course of DemonWars...so go read DemonWars! lol

I started reading IceWind Dale, then the Dark Elf and read through all of the Drittz book until I came to the Paths of Darkness series... I took a break from Drittz to read the Cleric Quintet and then finished Paths of Darkness... I must say, I enjoyed the Cleric Quintet SOOOO much more. It was like a breath of fresh air. The whole Paths of Darkness series really irked me....

D&D pen and paper--fun
D&D computer games--most legal fun you can have without alcohol
D&D books--I've never been able to get past the first chapter of one.

3 words - Dark Elf Trilogy
edit: I failed to mention I actually enjoyed the Highwayman more than any of the other DemonWars books. Salvatore is much better at writing personal stories than epics.
double edit: Really twyrch? The Legacy of the Drow irked me, other than passage to dawn (that's the last one right?), that one was really good.

I was really into Salvatore for a while, I have all his earlier works. I even met him at a book signing for the first of the DemonWars series... but never actually read that one. Somehow, the title itself put me off. But the Drizzt stories are ones that I love to revisit now and then. I even did a portrait of Drizzt in colored pencil. The original got smeared, but I think I still have a color photocopy somewhere. Maybe I'll find it among all my stuff someday...

I started one of them... I don't even remember what it was called. It was the Drizzt one, though. I read the first 50 pages and was bored and irked. I also read the prologue of another one when my friend was reading it at lunch. Again, bored.

The Icewind Dale and Dark Elf trilogies are the best. though. Oh, and I know this is a late reply to dinadan's post, the early Salvatore stuff isn't really D&D books...I mean, he just wrote them as fantasies and they were some of the first forgotten realms books to get it kicked off...before the thing got so cluttlered it's ridiculous.

Okay, so I have to add my comments..just cuz, but some how I heard about Drizzt and wondered what or who is was (and well I'm obsessed with Elves too) so I found out the author and a few years later I read the dark elf trilogy and the highwayman. LOVE THEM! I want to read more....

I am glad you guys like Salvatore. I started to think maybe something was wrong with me. I mean all of my freinds (with the exception of the one who suggested it) told me it sounded or looked demonic. A freind in the Air Force suggested the Dark Elf Trilogy. I started hesitantly at first, but after the first two chapters I was hooked. I loved them. Then I started the Icewind Dale Trilogy, but in the beggining of the first book I stumbled on SRL and browsed, fell hopelessly in love, and left the Icewind Dale Trilogy. It refreshed me to read another athur who was just as good as Salvatore but yet the philosophical/religious ideas within his works wereones I could whole heartedly embrace. Now that I have read several of SRL's stuff it is time I get back to Icewind Dale.
