I just finished reading the Celtic Crusades series and was so impressed. Even though I've never been to the countries involved I feel like I was right there with the characters. That got me to thinking about the Bible. I'd really like to see Stephen write a book about the journey of the Three Wisemen and their trip to discover the Christ child by following His star. No one does action, adventure and travel log better than Stephen and with his sensitivity to the themes of the Bible and Christ, I can think of no person I would rather see take on the age old story. Do you agree? Let's see if we can talk him into it.

That would be really amazing to read. With the work he puts into investigating the details and accuracy in his stories, I would be interested to see what he would put together. Granted much of it would likely be conjecture but it would still be a great read.

Seeing as the season of Christmas is soon upon us, this seems like a proper and timely question to ask. I realize (as has been pointed out) that much of a story of the Three Wisemen would be speculation because the Bible mentions them only briefly. Yet they were put into the Bible , so their contribution to the Christmas story must be important. I usually do not encourage people to ADD to the Bible. I feel it is complete and how God wishes it to be...yet I also believe that anything a person can do to promote the reading of that precious book would be worthwhile. I would not trust such a weighty subject to just any author, but Stephen has proven his love and respect for the Lord many times over and I feel that he could do the story justice...not to mention make it an interesting read. Does anyone agree with me or do you feel that the Bible shouldn't be tampered with?

I wouldn't have a problem with it at all. SRL doesn't promote his fiction as fact (like a certain author does), so it would be perfectly acceptable in that context. I mean, if Disney is going to recreate Bible stories, we might as well have someone who will do it right!

I agree with you both. SRL would do a great job in making a story that would fit the context and make sure people knew it was based on the bible without claiming to be entirely true.

AMEN! I think it would be wonderful to read a fiction-story of the 3 wisemen, this is a great idea. I'm sure that SRL would make a great work on it.
Have a great day and be blessed!

He pokes his head in here from time to time. Although, I'm sure that currently he is busy with book signings and appearances and such. You can also go here on his website and submit questions/comments directly to him.

I think it would be a great idea. There have been a number of fictions based on one or all of the Wise Mens' stories. (we must take into account that there were three gifts, but the Bible does not say that there were three wise men).
If you are interested in reading a challenging story that involves an intricate (fictitious) account of one of the traditional three wise men, read Ben Hur, by Lew Wallace. If you have seen the movie and not read the book, you've only heard a third of the story. It's absolutely fantastic, and it's one our dear SRL himself would love to read if he hasn't. The epic scope of descriptive prose, the vivid details and flashbacks into Egyptian myth, the shocking spiritual depth that was leeched out of the story for the movie (which I love anyway)--read Ben Hur!!! You'll love it. It's a challenge, but one you'll never forget!!

Do I get shouted down and booed if I also join the above poster and point out that three wise men is, in itself, mere speculation? There were three gifts, and more than one wise man, but we aren't ever actually told how many wise men there are... that developed later, in tradition. Kind of like Adam, Eve and the apple. We hear that it is fruit... but have added the detail of what kind of fruit later. Or Noah's ark, where we say 2 by 2, when the story says seven of every clean animal...
