i dont understand how almost evryone i know thinks california is the greatest place ever. Is that because you've never been here, or because you have? God was really generous to my part of California. I am less than 20 minutes from the Monterey Bay, which is one of the loveliest spots to enjoy the Pacific Ocean. We have rolling hills, green fields, raw and rugged natural formations. From where I live it is technically possible to go snowboarding and surfing on the same day. You can see eagles or sea lions; take your pick. We are fond of saying we don't have weather here; we have climate. The mean temperature is about 65 degrees F--sometimes much warmer and sometimes cooler, but nearly always perfectly comfortable. Sunsets and sunrises are magnificent. I could go on and on, but I trust you get the idea. Believe me, there are lots of reasons why people love it out here. (The cost of living is decidedly not one of those reasons.) As to where I was born--a long way from here, and a long time ago. My birthplace was a small town in southeastern West Virginia. As the tale goes, my mother was reading the Sunday comics when it became apparent that I was about to make my debut (and how apropos was that! ;D.) I was born at home 20 minutes later, before my parents could get to the hospital.

I was born in an urban city/town called Paterson, NJ. Very diverse town. i live in the section where most arabs are ... its like a version of china town but for arabics here. Paterson has one of the largest arabic communities in the country. we also have a huge hispanic/latino and african american community

Interesting. I've always wanted to learn Arabic...I'm fascinated by the sound of the language. I grew up in a very homogenous, WASP area in the South, but have always have sought out experiencing other cultures and places.

They are great people. It angers me when they are belittled or degraded due to stereotypes. Plus their women are gorgous

I was born in Vancouver British Colombia. It is a very beautiful province of Canada, I recomended to everyone. (except right now because there is an election going on *shudders*) B.C. is awesome but so is every other place I've been. btw best country to visit has got to be Belgium or the Netherlands (hup, hup Holland). This led me to thinking, (I've got an amazing mind for jumping topics) now that we know where every one is born, I'm curious to know where everyones families orgianlly came from. I'll start, holland, we were all farmers, cheesemakers, or owned bakeries

I was born at home on 25th January 1970 at 1.10AM. The movie 'Night Of The Demon' had just finished (how appropriate!!) and the midwife suggested the name 'Dana' to Mum & Dad (after Dana Andrews). Thankfully, Mum didn't listen and chose Mark instead! This was in Wallasey (UK). See : www.mikekemble.com/mside/wallasey1.html

I was born in St. Charles, Illinois. (No, that's Ill-in-noy, not Ill-in-noise.) It's a suburb of Chicago. Now I live in Petoskey Michigan, and love it here. Although, part of my heart belongs in Conwy, Wales.

I was born in Michigan, but didn't stay around long enough to get to know the place. At 7 months we were off to Bolivia.
History of the family? Yikes! I'm a mishmash of many northern European countries. I can't remember them all.

I'm really not sure where my family originated. A year of so ago, my sister went on a Find the Family Tree kick for a while...she was completely obsessed. She was able to trace my dad's side back for hundreds of years, all the way to Scotland and England, and apparently, found that we are in somehow related to nearly every nasty person in history. She was quite disappointed. I'm not sure how accurate all of her findings were; one day, I'll have to research for myself. In a more general way, my parents used to joke that our family was kicked out of every respectable country in the world. I'm not completely sure they were joking.... Anyhoo...
