So my friend. . .yes, the one I asked out in the middle of summer. . . is going to the DR with his family and wants me. . .well, expects me to go. . .it's basically a free vacation. The only thing is I wouldn't be home for Christmas and I would have to take a week off work. . .what do you all think?

Time is the fire in which we burn... When will you have another opportunity to experience something like this?
Robin Williams said it best in Dead Poets Society
"Suck the marrow out of life, but don't choke on the bone."
“Carpe Diem! Seize the day. Make your lives extraordinary.”

On the flip side, you could ask yourself how badly would it suck if it turned out to be less than your expectations. I would make sure you know why you want to go, what you expect from going, and then find out if that is going to happen. Although, that said, it has always been my philosophy that palm trees always make it worthwhile... (I shouldn't admit this, but I read that post several times trying to figure out how it would be a vacation to go to the doctor with someone...)

I guess if you don't totally loathe the thought of spending a week with this person and his family, have fun and wear sunscreen!!
Traveling is always a good idea. It is broadening and lets us see a part of the world not automatically understood by us. Good for opening our minds as to how others think and live.

*sighs* I had made my decision last night that I wanted to go and then today it gets cancelled because ticket prices are too expensive. . .can we believe this?

See...this is why I love being a pessimist. Because I always expect things to go wrong, it doesn't surprise me when they do. When even the smallest things actually go right, I'm ecstatic!

Well, I was going to say, go for it and have fun as long as you know why you're going and understand all sides to what may or may not happen but as things have moved along very quickly, I'll just say I'm sorry that it didn't get to happen for you.
Perhaps this is just a sign that you'll be having a different type of fun Christmas vacation with your friend.
