I realise I have been planning this for years...
Next week my wife and I will be flying out of New Zealand do to a bit of site seeing....
I just want to share my excitement with you, as many of you will appreciate some of my destination choices.
First we visit South Africa for eight days before flying on to England (this is the most exciting bit - I think - if you know you'll understand).
In England we will see much, of special note here is....
- Tintagel (birth place of Arthur)
- Glastonbury (possible Avalon and final resting place of Arthur - if he is in fact dead!)
- Warick Castle and heaps of other cool castles and ruins.
You have got to realise how cool this is for me, a committed Dark and Middle Age histofile. New Zealand only has a European history of 200 years! Down here when we see a house that is 150 years old we say 'wow!' Very soon I will be exploring the ancient stone circles at Avebury etc!!!!!!!
Anyway after this we go to the Netherlands, but then on to Istanbul!!!!! Yes my paper back copy of Byzantium will be firmly in hand! This is also gunna be very cool, exploring the city that bridges the east and west!
Also of interest but not specifically Lawhead…
We will visit...
- Gallipoli - the WW1 battlefield where the Kiwis along side the Aussies (ANZACS) and British fought in a battle that became a turning point in the two younger nations histories. This will also be very emotional place for me.
- Greek Islands
- Athens
- Roman (hail Caesar!) Just been reading Conn Iggulden.
- Croatia
- Venice
- back to London
and back home via
- LA and Disney Land!
This is not a small thing for us at all, but a once in a life time event that we are so thankful to be able to have.
Makes me wonder how many of your home towns we will be passing through!
Now have I packed enough CDRs for all the photos I will be taking?!

but besides that your not stopping by this awesome land it otherwise sounds like a very cool trip
