This comes from an article in the Boston Globe article linky In the United States, young adults who ricochet back home are known as boomerang kids. They're also referred to as adultescents or thresholders, and their families are said to suffer from cluttered nest syndrome. The British use a wry acronym to describe them, too: KIPPERS, or kids in parents' pockets eroding retirement savings. And for the record, yes... I came back home for a year before moving into my own place.... right next door.

Hmm, I would have to say no. I am only 18 so its not like i have had much time to move out. I would like to move out but its not worth it when I live five minutes away from my university

I was. After college graduation, I got a teaching job in another state, (just after I met DanMyMan), and moved there for 6 months until the school year was done. Then, I moved back home again, waiting to see what I would do and I lived at home and worked as a substitute teacher until Dan and I got married the next summer. We've been on our own ever since.

I never was. I actually lived at home through college as the college was in the same town as where I grew up. After college I moved out and have been out and away ever since.

No, I lived with one parent or the other until I met Jeremy. I lived with my mom through high school and then she got remarried and moved away. So, then I lived with my dad while attending college and working. I didn't get to live with my dad for free. He made me pay $20 a week and I occasionally helped out with groceries. Even though it was only $20 a week, I am glad that my dad made me pay this. It got me somewhat ready for the real world. After Jeremy and I got married I moved out.

Well, I guess I can't really say one way or the other... I'm only nineteen, and I have lived a semester away from the house, but I'm not expected to just up and leave, at least not yet, I hope....

Not I. By the time I finished my undergraduate degree I was already moved out and married for a year.

I did when my marriage fell apart. I did my part to chip in with bills and such though.

Okay, I admit it. I was 16, had a son, moved out, made lots of mistakes, and my dad was wonderful enough to allow me back in for a whole 6 months, when I couldn't take it anymore and had to get my own place. Which I did for about 2 years, then moved back in for 6 more months (that's about all I could stand) HA! I finally got on my feet firmly and haven't moved back in since I was 18 (I think).
