Yup thats right, yesterday I saved a horses life. . .
So at my job I have to feed the horses, duh. I was goin out there, and I saw a horse lying on the ground awkwardly. So i ran up to find that this mare, Babe, had its front foot stuck in the feeder. Not just stuck mind you, but jammed tight with bars wedging it in and twisted in a really awkward position.
So i yelled for my coworker and friend to come over, she calmed the horse down and covered its eyes which was necessary because every couple of minutes the horse would freak out and kick to try to get out. This would only cause the horse to grind its foot all the way to the bone, with blood gushing out of it. And every once in a while it would get its hind foot caught in too, which we had to pry out while watching to make sure she didn't kick our head in.
Anyways, so I ran to get the phone to call my boss, who called a lady up the street, Linn, and I called the vet. Ofcoure every vet was on an emergency call, just our luck. So the lady up ths street came with tools.
My job was to sit on the horse's neck to keep her calm, and my friend and Linn were taking the feeder apart. Every 5 minutes or so the horse would flail up to try to get out, and i had to slam her back down on the ground to prevent furthur injury.
Next, it started raining, with added lightling. Yup, one hit about 20 ft away. And yup, the feeder was metal, just out luck.
After 2 hours of prying at the feeder, they take it apart, but ofcoure the part where she's stuck is welded in. So we flip the feeder upright, and they have to hold it up while i try to get the hoof out. I take a hammer and attempt to wedge it out. No luck. Then the horse flipped out stood up, then fell back down. We looked at her hoof and it was half way out, i have no idea how. So we let her flip out again, and her foot is out. Yup O U T. So i grad the lead rope and lead her away as quickly as possible so that anohter foot doesn't get stuck.
Amazngly she's walking on it. I thought for sure it was broken. . . but it turned out it wasn't. . .
So yeah, I saved a horse. . .
