Here's yet another pointless, random poll....
When you put a roll of toilet paper on, do you like it to roll forward, with the paper coming over the top....
or do you prefer it to roll backward, with the paper coming under the bottom....
This was always a big fight in my house when I was growing up... I'm just curious to see what you guys think.

I knew it was just a matter of time before this poll...I'm an over the top guy, although I must wonder if the wording of your poll discourages "backward" people from voting...who wants to be a backward person? Speaking of...I see Twyrch didn't say if he voted...  I must also mention there is a perfectly good economical reason why most people prefer over the top. The loose end is closer to the toilet, for one thing, and also does not flatten itself against the wall or whatever the TP holder is attached to. This makes it easier to grab. A small thing you say? Hey, we spend 10 minutes in line at the drive thru just so we don't have to get out of our car! Why should toilet activities be any more demanding than consuming the waste we are now excreting? Furthermore, I....wait....I suddenly have to....be back later! |

Well, I can't really vote! I mean, there should be a fourth option, "depends on how old the kids are".
Over the top is preferred for dgan's stated reasons, but there is a vital benefit for running it down the back against the wall. Kids are far less likely to unroll the whole roll if it is running to the back. The reason? You can't simply bat the roll and watch it ripple to the floor. If you spin it (kid-style) it rolls back up, averting that soggy pile of paper we all love to find next to the toilet! (Why kids can't leave toilet paper dry is beyond me, but the fact is, if it unrolls it gets wet. They have even cast an entire roll, on the roll, into the toilet before. THAT was nasty.)

Don't the kids figure it out anyway? If it doesn't work one way, try the other? That's when you take the roll away and they can take from the pile they made on the floor.

For some reason, when I rip the paper off, I tend to get too much when it goes behind the roll... the over the top method allows me to hold onto the roll and rip the paper evenly... Nothing I hate more, than uneven layers on a sheet of TP. Also, I'm with Dgan. Use just enough paper to get the job done... I hate wasting TP...  *refrains from any Beavis and Butthead impersonations* |

Everbody in my family likes it coming over the top, so I try to put it that way in all the bathrooms except for mine. In mine I don't really care wither way.
