I have EMETOPHOBIA. I've had it, I think, since I was about 13 or 14. A million nothings dollars for the one who knows what I have (without doing a search online). HINT: It is the fifth most common phobia.
Anyone else have weird phobias?

Most phobias are derived from greek words. Emetophobia, I imagine, comes from "emetos"--to expel from one's stomach, i.e. to throw-up. So you're afraid of throwing up?
I have a mild aversion to being injected with things, i.e. hypodermic needles; I don't think it qualifies as a phobia, though.
I do have, however, a couple of weird philias. For example, bibliophilia--I love being surrounded by books, and only really feel comfortable in such a situation. I also have some slight thalassophilia, uncommon love for the sea.

Well, I've always been confused as to how serious the fear has to be in order to make it a phobia. For example, I don't have a fear of spiders in general...I just fear them TOUCHING ME! Same thing with snakes. Fear of heights - definately. I don't have fear of water, but I have fear of drowning. When I was younger, I had social anxiety to a point. But all of these things I can overcome despite my fear - and I think a phobia is when the fear controls you? I'm not sure. But if that is the case, I guess I don't have any phobias. I sure do have a lot of anxiety, though!
I also have a fear of my wife....not sure where that fits into this....

I also have a fear of my wife....not sure where that fits into this.... Lol, of course, as it should be... hmm, I myself don't have any phobias but i have a friend with a severe case of arachniphobia, it was funny watching her in the rainforest cafe. I also have a friend with a bad fear of heights and falling (or as she says, dying) i sat next to her on an airplane, she had my seat belt so tight i couldn't breathe and then she wouldn't let me go to the bathroom

Well, I've always been confused as to how serious the fear has to be in order to make it a phobia. Well, the general rule is that the fear has to be so bad that it paralyzes you; you shut down completely in response to it. Do you go out of your way to avoid all contact with the things you fear? Do you have panic/anxiety attacks just imagining yourself in a scenario with the things you fear? If so, you might just have a phobia.

Yes, Dinadan, you right about me, and you're also right about the whole paralyzing effect. I get so scared of throwing up sometimes that I wish myself to have ANY other form of pain. And not just me either; when someone in my family gets sick I generally run out of the house.

I do have, however, a couple of weird philias. For example, bibliophilia--I love being surrounded by books, and only really feel comfortable in such a situation. Hmm, me too. If and when I build my own private study, I want to have bookshelves on all four walls. I'm definetely more comfortable this way.

If and when I build my own private study, I want to have bookshelves on all four walls. I'm definetely more comfortable this way. You'd be comfortable visiting me, then. There's only one room at my place that doesn't have a bookshelf (or three), and that's the bathroom--because it's physically too small to hold one. My private library is growing enormous, and it looks like I'm going to have to have a room entirely devoted to it when I find a new place to live.

I have two fears, although I don't know if they'd qualify as phobia's: One is of the Chucky doll and the other is of needles. I absolutely hate needles. Oh, and I have this recent odd fear of having either my throat or wrists cut.

I have arachnaphobia. My only phobia. "I also have a fear of my wife....not sure where that fits into this...." Freud said that has something to do with sex. Just like fear of heights... water... bugs... hair... clowns... mimes.... little children... your mother, your FATHER, your dog cat or snake... books... love... babies... television *drones off for the next several hours*
Methinks he had an obsession... anyone up to psychoanalyzing Freud with me? Hehe
