Well I figure I should share this since it will cut into my forum time here. Now this story I'm about to tell, starts before I was born.
When my mom and dad where sitting around trying to decide on what to name me some announcement I'm thinking must have occurred on the telivision for The Land That Time Forgot. My dad, an Edgar Rice Burroughs fan goes "Hey I got it!" And my name was found! Although he insists its from the book I think its from the movie based on the fact that we don't acctually own the book... but I don't doubt that he's read it.
So anyways, years go by when suddenly on some trip somewhere, dad picks up a copy of "Pirates of Venus." My first real introduction to ERB. I was aware of his works on Tarzan but that character, I never was really into him. But the Venus story was another bushel of apples! After plowing through that book, we both worked on it and quickly acquired the rest of the Venus series. However, after we finished it, the interest died down.
Now we jump to about a month ago. On some out of the blue topic, I was talking with one of my friends about Frank Frazetta. Again, he is one of those people who's work I was aware of but never really researched. So after we talked I searched online to see exactly what he did... which is simply amazing. And quite coincedentally is a famous cover artist for MANY ERB books. Which leads to further research as to which books he illustrated. Believe me, I was quite thrilled when, after ransacking my house, I came up with 3 books with Frazetta covers. Two from the Venus series, and one from "The People that Time Forgot" which is the sequal to "The Land the Time Forgot." So I picked up "TPTTF" and just burned through it and thus converted me into a ERB fan for life. It's almost kind of funny... just about all his stories are the same but at the same time I can't help but to go back for more and more.
So to make a long story longer, I just finished an order of ERB books with Frazetta covers for $60 which doesn't include the other two orders I but in about a week ago, each for about the same amount. And with each book costing about $2 ... I'm going to be reading a lot. Just thought I'd give a heads up.
And on a side note, I think I was named after the wrong character in "The Land that Time Forgot" even though I'm not sure yet if he acctually was in "TLTTF" but I shall soon find out!
