What makes me a Christian?
For years I did many works in the name of “Christianity” I went to five religious meetings a week having prepared for those meetings with countless hours of study. I spent tens of hours a month preaching from door to door. None of this made me a Christian. Actually it was all a waste of time and energy. Why?
Because I was following a religion designed by a man. One that was full of rules and regulations, ways to do this and ways to do that. I had no time to understand what being a Christian truly means. To be honest I still don’t know fully, but since I have gone my own way and left organized religion behind at least I now have the time to explore my beliefs.
I think the core essentials are an unfailing belief that God exists and a willingness to be led by him, coupled with a personal honesty and integrity in your faith.

Thanks Adam, but I have decided against it. It would just end up ruffling feathers and in the long run accomplish nothing.

Oh well. I for one have no problem with someone having a negative stance on religion. Actually I love to hear it. If someone could convince me Christianity is false, or my viewpoint is false, fair play I am willing to learn. What I object to are those entrenched in their views, either for or against. Those people will never learn anything. Debate is good.

I'll second that. No one ever died of ruffled feathers.

It's the part after the ruffling, when beaks are involved. It's cool, as long as no one starts flaming...

I think the core essentials are an unfailing belief that God exists and a willingness to be led by him, coupled with a personal honesty and integrity in your faith. I agree with you on this point, Adam. Ultimately all the rituals and practices we follow in our religion(s) are just that...rituals and practices. This is something I have become so aware of in the past couple of years, and it's paradoxically disillusioning and enlightening. Most of the practices that we have in Christianity are actually rituals adopted from ancient day pageantry customs. There really isn't much of a difference then between Christianity and any other religion. Christianity is all about loving God by loving your neighbour more than you love yourself. And your neighbour is always the underdog...the one who is in 'need' of comfort and help be it physical, spiritual, mental or emotional. 'Compassion' is the key word. Nothing else matters. I believe that even a person who does not believe in the death and resurrection of the Christ has salvation as long as he loves his fellowmen/women. I think the Greeks call this kind of love 'agape'. This is what I have learnt...but I'm still learning a great deal with this concept as the basis. Practicing it, though, is very very hard since set habits and ideas are incredibly hard to break.

I have come to the underlying conclusion (Just recently) that everything came from something.. IT DID NOT JUST APPEAR!!! Take a second and look around you at what exists. ANd what is it?? Fibers, molecules, etc. things which have, for all intensive purposes, fundamental properties which we can look at and distinguish through, for the most part, Math and science. THus with this in mind we can say that everything came from Wisdom and knowledge. This was, What i believe to be the beginning. God was assembled through a dynamic organiztion of wisdom, knowledge, logic, and spirit etc. These things allowed God to manifest everything you see. This can explain his omnipotence. But to believe God is chrianity is completly one sided as even through this thread you can see branches of deviation through Christianity. God is bigger than one religon. Thus bringing one to belive, hopefully, in the light and in love( through religon or what not).. This is only the beginning of course, but this is my fundamental belief. And it is completly healthy to be part of a religon, hweaven knows I wish not to pass judgement!

I believe that I am a Christian, because I have said to myself and God that I am a sinner, I believe that Jesus Christ died GAVE HIS LIFE for all man kind, and have confessed my sin, and God has shadded me with purity so that, though I may continue to sin, God can accept me because he only sees purity. Encouraging huh?...contact me to find out more, eh? eh?
