Last night, I had the privilege to go see Douglas Gresham talk in person. If you ever get chance to see him, do it. I was very impressed with the man.
First, he gave us some news and previews of the movie, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. (Which you may find at Narnia.com, I think.) Next, he opened it up to Q&A time. I think most people were surprised by this but I appreciated it.
He was asked about his relationship with Lewis. He said that Lewis was the best step-dad he could ever want to have. He was asked what he thought of the movie Shadowlands. He replied that Anthony did a good job, but Debra Winger did a great job. (He said that Tony Hopkins is a "good bloke".)
He told of a story with the new movie. They moved production to the Czech Republic for a snowy forest scene. When they arrived, there was nothing but mud. Gresham said matter-of-factly that he would pray about it. The next morning, there was a foot of snow and production could continue as planned.
He said many times that Lewis was the best Christian man he has ever met. That Lewis was a man with 19th century ideals and morals, the like of which has all but disappeared in later centuries.
He was asked what it was like to live his life in the shadow of C. S. Lewis. He said that for one thing, C. S. Lewis did not leave a shadow, he left a glow. And Gresham hopes to reflect any of that light that he can.
Gresham is a strong man of faith and not ashamed to share it with others. I am honored to have listened to him speak, ask him a question, shake his hand, and buy his book (signed).
