Ok, I'm about to give up! I've been trying for two days to send press and it keeps telling me my password or power is wrong. I know which power I am and I know I'm using the right password. Uh! what to do? I can't even seem to send a cry for help to the DPjudge. Can any of you help me through this dilemma?

Ok, everything is under control. Break it up. Everyone go home. There's nothing to see here. Ma'am, I need to ask you to step back. Hey you! Don't pull on that yellow tape! It costs $2.79 a roll! Who are you? I didn't ask for a crime investigation team. You think this is some type of TV show or something?
Next thing you know, there will be federal agents here or som....who are you?

It might have been me who delayed things. Sorry . I just can't get into another game this time. Maybe later. I was late in getting back to Twyrch. I'm interested to hear how things progress, if anyone will post what's happening. I wish you all the best!

I'll play if there's still space, or in the next game if not. :-)

COI, we got kg00ds all setup so I'm afraid we're full. But write it down - reservation for COI in the next game! If necessary, I would happily give up my spot to allow others get a taste of this...it's addicting!

DanTheMan, don't worry about it. You didn't cause the hold-up. You had already told me that you were too busy for another game, so I had invited Shane to join us this time around. Unfortunately, Gwalchamai hasn't been around to know about the start of the game and that's what held things up. Thanks, though, to kg00ds, who got us going again. Dgan, it would be better just to let this game play out and the next game, I will sit out and be the GM. This will give others a chance to play.

I guess I shouldn't have just assumed. I'm glad to know you got signed up.

Oh, kg00ds, I think you need to work on your negotiation skills I know I do. I'm not sure how, though. In what way do you think I need to.? If any of ya'll have some generalized suggestions I would definitely appreciate them even if I do not get them til the game is over or at least until I'm out. Another thing I need to do is learn how to do the commands. I don't know why I'm having so much trouble. I am thankful for those of you who have been helping with that issue. I hope I do it right this next turn. I tell you guys what, if I can get it right on this next turn, I'll be elated even if I get cut out quick. Oh, well thanks for letting me join. I thought at first this was a mistake, but for some reason I,m starting to enjoy it. God bless you guys and thanks Gwal for the encouragement.

I thought at first this was a mistake, but for some reason I,m starting to enjoy it. God bless you guys and thanks Gwal for the encouragement. What kind of commands do you mean? Like how the units work? the syntax of the commands? I'd be glad to help you any way I can. As for the Diplomacy aspect, here's some advice I've gleaned from experience. 1) Don't be overly cocky and bold, but don't be so timid that you allow people to walk all over you. 2) Think of Diplomacy as a game of Chess, in that you need to have a plan and work towards that goal. When someone's moves mess up that plan, re-evaluate your goal and see if it needs to be modified or if there is another way to go about it. 3) Think of Diplomacy, also, like the TV Show, Survivor. In that game, you form alliances and you work towards a common goal (final 4... final 3... etc) Once you reach that goal, you need to look at what it's going to take to get you to the final two... then finally to win outright. 4) Remember that promises are only good for as long as they are kept. It's a game. Outside friendships and relationships shouldn't factor in to who you stab or how you play your game. In our last game, Dgan and I took out Turkey in short order... The guy playing Turkey was my best man at my wedding. I've worked with him for 5 years and role-played with him every weekend for 3 years. That didn't stop me from knocking his feet out from underneath him and moving on to DanTheMan, then Gwalchmai. Now, that doesn't mean you can't be honest and can't tell the truth to people. Dgan and I kept our promises to each other throughout the whole game. Even when we had the chance to stab each other, we didn't. We played a clean game and shared the victory in a 2-Way Draw. 5) Write your press as a mediator. Remember that when you ask people to help you out, that you need to not only be prepared to return the favor later, but make sure your plan is fair and equitable for all parties involved. 6) It's also like a game of poker... you can't show all your cards at once. You can't let the other players know you're scared or allow them to smell blood in the water, or they'll go for the easy builds and take you out. 7) Don't take anything personal. Don't allow grudges from your personal life or from previous games influence your judgement. The best ally in one game can turn out to be the biggest backstabber in the next. I think that's enough advice for now, but if you have any question, I'm just a Press or PM away.

One other point that should be made. Don't ever put complete trust in anyone, not even your closest ally. At several points in the game, both Twyrch and Dgan admitted to making moves to make sure that if they were backstabbed by the other, they could fight back despite the fact that they were allies. Because you never know

At several points in the game, both Twyrch and Dgan admitted to making moves to make sure that if they were backstabbed by the other, they could fight back despite the fact that they were allies. Because you never know That's VERY true. As much as I wanted to trust Dgan, I knew that he could stab me at any time if he wanted to and I had to make sure I was in a position to inflict just as much damage on him as he could inflict on me. We came up with a great DMZ around the Black Sea, where he had two fleets (one in RUM and ANK) and I had two armies (one in CON and one in BUL). That way, I couldn't hurt him and he couldn't hurt me. Then we made the whole area a DMZ, but after each build, I would move units to SER or TRI, just in case he got any bright ideas about taking me out. In fact, as we neared the end, I had a choice... stab Dgan or stab Gwal... I saw that Dgan and I had even builds (VERY IMPORTANT in building a long-lasting alliance), so I offered a "race to the finish". We discussed it diplomatically and logically and both came to the agreement that it would be more fun to wipe everyone else off the board than to fight each other and allow the others to gain strength. Now, had Dgan and I not taken 17 in the same round, I wouldn't have kept my bargain. I would have just taken the 18th center and won the game... I'm sure he would have done the same to me. The key was even growth... That's what made the whole alliance possible.

I would say the most important concept to grasp is that you cannot win by yourself. You HAVE to work with someone else to begin gaining an advantage, or at least to prevent finding yourself at a disadvantage. Eventually, your cooperation will turn to confrontation but that is just the nature of the game.
Alliances work best when both parties understand they will both die fighting each other, but will survive to fight each other another day if they work together for a while.
