Drunk Driver Leaps into Back Seat
CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA-September 13, 2005 - Dude, where's the driver?

Police in northern Australia report seeing a drunk driver of a speeding car jump into the back seat with his shocked passenger.

Officers on an Outback road were chasing the car when the driver bailed. The driverless car careened out of control but only one of the passengers suffered minor injuries.

Police Sergeant Wayne Jenkinson says the 24-year-old driver apparently thought he could avoid arrest by pretending to be one of the passengers.

Jenkinson says the driver had a blood alcohol level more than three-times the legal limit. The young man is to appear in court this week on charges of resisting arrest and driving under the influence.
