I need advice from any writers here. How do you resurrect a dead plot line. I just realized today I've been keeping my book on life support the past two years. I've written myself into a box and buried it. What would you do?

Goo! That's really frustrating!
I was there a few years ago with my book too! (I've been writing it -s l o w l y- for six years) My problem was that I started writing a short story, then truned into a novel with absolutely no idea where it was going. (BAD IDEA!) Anayway, I ended up with a stupid plot that made no sense because it required nearly every character to be completely stupid and not notice something right in front of their faces.
The way I fixed it was by spending a week of my vacation reviewing the story and figuring out where I really wanted it to go. I realized that to make things fit and save my characters from stupidity, I had to actually create a completely new main character and reinvent another main character.
So, maybe if you spent some time with your basic, basic plot you might find something to tweak (or demolish, or rebuild, or add) about the beginnings of your story that will fix the dead end?

I've decided to change some characters and nix some characters. One may be a mystic theurge (cleric/sorcerer--like them and played them in Might and Magic). He's going to have an Arabic first name like Kamir. He'll be my historian.
