For those of us writinng fictional battles, I came across 11 tactics used by the Flemish in 1302 that helped them to defeat the French. I thought I'd add them here for perusal(sp ?). It could be useful when setting up a battle for your protagonist's army.
1.Protect the Rear 2. Protect the Flank 3. Make the front difficult to access 4. Be uphill 5. Form a reserve 6. Provide a skirmish screen 7. Ensure Good order 8. Keep the line intact 9. Dismount the leaders 10. Stiffen morale 11. Pursue Rigorously.
I plan on heeding this tactics when I set up my battles--since the really big battles don't start until Book 2.
Peace, Rhiannon ;D

Thanks for the info! Those sound like really good tactics, and though I haven't yet decided if there will be an actual, all-out battle in my novel, it will certainly come in handy.
