I live in the middle of Arkansas and read my first Lawhead book in 1994. It was the Paradise War. I ate up the rest of the trilogy having found them in a Christian Book Store and thinking I've found some "safe" fantasy fiction. At some point I read the Dragon King trilogy, but I don't remember that it was by SRL, so I hope to go back and read them as a fan of his. I've also read the Celtic Crusades and the Empyrion books. Honestly I was quite disturbed by the Empyrion books and don't think I finished II. I really questioned Mr. Lawhead's beliefs in these last books. I just couldn't feel "safe" reading them. I took a long break from Lawhead. Then I read Byzantium. Wow. One of my favorites. I went back to "this guy can SO write" and "how he describes feasts, battles, etc. unbelievable!!" Now, even though I'm extremely busy and don't have time to read much, I can't put down the Pendragon Cycle. The way he has described the Christian faith and elevated the Lord in these books has personally restored my confidence in reading his stories. I'm looking forward to the King Raven trilogy and anything and everything I haven't already read.

Welcome to you both. The various books provide insight into any author and can show the transformation that takes place in writing style as well as beliefs. Some authors will write something a little more disturbing simply to get you thinking and questioning what it is you really believe.
