I'm re-reading Taliesin, and I've become very drawn to the many characters we see in Atlantis. For the most part everyone has a mythologically Greek sounding name, except curiously Throm, who seems to be a foreshadow of Merlin.
The capitol city is named Posidenis, if I recall correctly, but the Atlanteans worship Bel/Cybal with bull sacrifices that call to mind the later Mithraic adversaries.
Could it be that the Atlanteans are the descendents of Troy's evacuees?
Anyway, what are your thoughts on Atlantis? There's so much that happens that we have so little insight into. I'd love to see a "prequel" or short story about who these people were and why what happened came to be.

In the real world Plato invented Atlantis for the purposes of his dialogue Timaeus, but I don't believe he gave an origin for it. I've read an interpretation where it represents a military force against Persia in contrast to the weakness of Athens.
What you could do with that in fiction... well, quite a lot.

I know that some archaeologists consider ancient Minoa to have been Atlantis, or at least an island nearby which sank. If so, then it appears Lawhead took some of his Atlantis from the Minoans, because of the bull-dancing, etc. I think there is even extant paintings on pottery of bull dancers form their civilization.
I'd have to dig through my notes and verify with my daughter --- hopefully I haven't got that wrong.

Oh! And a Swedish man named Olaf Rudbeck came up with a strange theory that Atlantis was Sweden!
It sounds implausible, but he made a pretty good case for it in his time. There's a fascinating new book out about it called: "Finding Atlantis: A True Story of Genius, Madness, and an Extraordinary Quest for a Lost World" by David King.
(p.s. I don't think Lawhead based any of his ideas on Rudbeck!)

Some believe Atlantis to be the lost island of Santorini which erupted in the 16th century BCE. The eruption destroyed the Minoan civilization. Plato had two dialogues Timeus and Critias. But whatever the true origin is we don't know. Cayce the American clairvoyant thought it was somewhere in the Atlantic. One thing is sure, writer's have fun with it and bend the legend to their own will. That's the beauty of myth and legend.
