Well, Treskillard asked me to share my work-in-progress here, so here it goes.
The book is about a people group called the "Eldania," a race of part-human, part fallen angel, like the Nephilim mentioned in Genesis 6. Due to their mixed blood, these people have magical abilities, like telekinesis and elemental magic.
The Eldania once lived in Mesopotamia, and attempted to peacefully co-exist with their pure human relatives. However, their supernatural abilities brewed fear in the other races of mankind as the Eldania became more numerous.
A peaceful people, they fled the ensuing persecution rather than destroy mankind. They settled on a large island in the Atlantic that they named Iltradi, far from the reaches of their human cousins.
They lived in peace for centuries until a man named Sitea began to stir up strife amongst the Eldania, calling the Eldania to take up arms and reclaim their abandoned homes in Mesopotamia and dominate mankind.
Such an act went against the laws set down by God, and two factions arose; the Eldan, who sought to abide by the laws, and the Dasai, who wished to leave.
War followed, and due to the cataclysmic powers that came to bear, the island was destroyed before the Eldania destroyed each other, forcing an inadvertent "cease-fire.”
Both factions managed to escape the destruction and the survivors scattered all over the earth in small groups. They settled mostly in Europe, and from them, we get our legends of Elves, wizards, etc. Over time, they interbred with pureblood humans, causing their angelic blood to become recessive.
Eventually, they forgot their power, in an attempt to blend in with humanity, and their history faded.
However, there is a prophecy that one day the Eldania will awaken, the Island of Iltradi will rise once more, and the war will begin again. That's where my book begins, with a young man who knows nothing of his heritage. But together with a small group of friends and the guidance of a man wise beyond his years, he realizes his abilities, and rises to lead the Eldan in their final battle against the Dasi.
The way I've been going about it, the story is told from the perspective of Kenie, the old sage who guides Delwa, the main character, and his friends to realize their abilities. The backstory is told by way of flashbacks that Delwa has, and brief anecdotes told by Kenie.
I'm about 3/4 of the way done, but have been suffering from a horrible case of writer's block. It's not so much that I don't know what I need to write, I know exactly what has to be written, I simply cannot come up with the creativity to write it and make it interesting.
If you want a few very rough excerpts, you can find them in my abandoned blog, here
