So, I just got back yesterday from Washington, D.C., where I watched my oldest brother tie the knot... it was a pretty good weekend. Here's a picture: Left to right: our pastor, the newly married man himself, yours truly, my other brother, and two friends.

That's awesome. I offer best wishes and congratulations to the newly married couple. So, did you have a great time? I'm guessing you did but this is just my ploy for more details of how things went.

That's awesome. I offer best wishes and congratulations to the newly married couple. So, did you have a great time? I'm guessing you did but this is just my ploy for more details of how things went. Great time, yes yes. Details? Well, I flew out on Thursday (as I mentioned in FF, it was my first time to fly solo), and on Friday we made some last-minute arrangments before the rehearsal and dinner. My brother and I went to the Men's Warehouse store and found that our pants did not fit (so I actually didn't get the pants for my tux until Saturday morning, just a few hours before we had to leave to go to the wedding!). The rehearsal dinner was awesome. There was a pub/grill right across the parking lot from our hotel, and we rented a room there. One unfourtunate event was that I bought 5 cigars for us guys to smoke in celebration, but I left the dinner before everyone else, and by the time my brothers and the other groomsmen got back to the hotel room I was already asleep, so the cigars went unsmoked (it goes without saying that I couldn't have offered them on the day of the wedding, otherwise the first kiss might have been disastrous . As for the ceremony, it was wonderful. A bright sunshiny afternoon, no big bumps to disrupt the flow of the day, all in all a smooth event. Of course, I've got a bit of an A.D.D. side to me , and we had our pastor come out to perform the ceremony, from the Baptist church we attend. You know those Baptist preachers, by the end of the "welcome and prayer" I think the length of two weddings had passed... Here's a good pic I found of the newlyweds, just after they were presented: The rehearsal went well also; the food delicious. As with the ceremony, everything went smoothly. Here's the first dance: So, on Sunday I flew back home, and promptly set up a lawn chair in our back yard. There, in the cool of the evening, I finally smoked a celebratory cigar. Now I just need a joyous enough occasion to polish off the other four ...

Wow. Sounds like a real great time which is as it should be. I've heard more stories about people having issues with the clothing not fitting right but I can't say I've ever had problems with any I've tried on. Go figure my own good luck I guess.
That's to bad about the cigars. It is a lot of fun doing things with the entire group but you're right about not smoking them the morning of the ceremony. The smell would certainly have lingered in the clothing and body even if everyone showered again. That breath thing never seems to go away quickly and the taste in the mouth lingers for quite some time as well. I've only smoked once, a cigar at that, and I have to admit not caring for it at all. Bleh.
Good luck getting through the other four.
That makes me laugh about the minister. Some are certainly more long winded than others and if you have a short attention span, that wouldn't help matters at all. Imagine what it would have been like if your mind started to drift to something else entirely and you suddenly burst out laughing at some joke. That would have been awkward.
I'm glad you had a great time and the wedding went smoothly. The pics are great. They look very happy together.
Ohhhh, how did you enjoy your first time flying solo?

Well, cigars are definitely better when smoked socially, but I can't say I was terribly disappointed... after all, they're not the cheapest delicay around. If every man had brought his own cigar, that would have been fantastic, but since I had bought them I was hoping my brother and I could find a brief time to sneak away... but ah well, him and his wife are visiting in November. I suppose we can celebrate then.
As for flying, it was fun but uneventful. Walking through the crazy tunnel in the Detroit airport was cool.
